What is a "commie lib"?

I'm confused about my political knowledge. Could someone please explain what a "commie lib" is?

Good observation. Communist and liberal are not compatibles. The association of the two terms is old though. It comes from the fact that liberals are traditionally more receptive to all ideas, and some liberals have expressed admiration for some of the objectives and rationales of communism. It is important to remember that NEVER has the majority of American liberals considered themselves communist! NEVER! In fact, true communism is not really within the categorization of what we understand to be liberal. Thus "commie lib" is just a sniping pejorative. That's all.

A "commie lib" is a sort of "boogey man" created by the right-wing pundits (such as Limbaugh, Hannity and O'Reilly) to set up as both a frighteningly conspiratorial monster who threatens the "American Way Of LIfe," and a pathetically incapable beast who can't manage to accomplish anything. The contradiction between these two images doesn't seem to both the above-mentioned pundits. Logic is not a tool they frequently employ.

That is just republican rhetoric and name calling... it means communist liberal and is meant to be insulting and is accusing you of being anti-American. Simply, that is where the term comes from and the reasons behind it... they consider 'communist' and 'liberal' the two worst insults so that is why they put them together.



Also, they believe that liberals are socialist because of our belief in social programs for the poor... they tie in that socialist belief with communism.. Get it? Btw, which is not true.



There really is no such thing and I should know because I am about as far to the left as a liberal can go without falling off.



I would say that 99% of the liberals are liberals because we are constitutionalists. Ppl like that guy hate the USA constitution so they try to paint a bad picture of rhetoric around liberals.



You see, they hate our constitution and the way our constitution won't allow Bush to invade our privacy. (recent ruling of the supreme court)



They don't like how the Supreme Court based legalizing abortion on a person's right to privacy in the 1st amendment.



They don't like how the 4th amendment separates church and state and won't force everybody to use their tax dollars to pay for prayer in public schools.



Things like that. They hate the constitution and the way the constitution forces them to behave civilized so they come up with name-calling rhetoric like commie lib in order to get you on the defense.

It's a made-up phrase to describe someone conservatives don't like. It's literally meaningless, because the words aren't being used in any coherent fashion, so are without coherent meaning.



The term "liberal", shortened to "lib" is used as an insult by many conservatives, completely ignoring both the dictionary definition and whether the person being insulted considers themselves liberal or not.



The term "communist", shortened to "commie" is also used as an insult to refer to anyone who prefers taxes to budget deficits, or generally to anyone the conservatives don't like. It has lost any semblance of it's original meaning, which was someone who supported an economic model of community property ownership.



Many self-described conservative mindlessly use the phrase to provoke an emotional response. But since neither of the words are being used in their dictionary meaning, and since they are often used to label people who don't consider themselves either communist or liberal, the words are literally empty rhetorical labels, without meaning.
