If the fairness doctrine were brought back?

Let's say the illiberals got their way and the so-called fairness doctrine was brought back and all views had to be given equal time on talk radio. When the topic of abortion comes up, would equal time have to be given to the pro-life view, the pro-choice view, and the pro-death view? I'm sure they could find some wackos that would enjoy telling people why every fetus must die.

If the fascist doctrine were brought back, what's to stop someone that's pro-death from getting equal time to talk on public airwaves? Or should this be allowed? After all, no one has the right to say what views are valid and what aren't. Should equal time also be given to the person that thinks only a certain race of people should be aborted?

Yes, in your example, it would probably require equal time for every irrational counter-perspective. Which is just one of many many reasons why it's a bad idea.



But most liberals oppose it as yet another govt intrusion into free speech. It's just a few Democrats who are trying to use the doctrine as a way to attack conservative radio stations.



Liberals want free speech -- not govt mandated interference. The people who support the Fairness Doctrine are not liberal -- they are just spiteful.

I can't believe any of my fellow liberals actually want that bs to become law. It is such an anti freedom of speech law that same freedom which has been one of the foundations of the liberalism for many years. I really don't care about getting equal representation amongst the hate mongering right wingers. If Air America proved anything it was that liberals generally don't listen to talk radio as much as conservatives so what does it matter.

The government decides what is fair if the fariness doctrine is enforced. The government can do whatever it wants, it doesn't have to be fair. I believe in free speech for everyone, including those I don't agree with.

I'm not in favor of it, but I would like it if These Pundits were held responsible for the lies that come out of their mouths. So many people believe everything they hear from these demagogues, it would be nice to make them back up what they say with cold hard facts.

The fairness doctrine is really unfair, so why waste time talking about it? Devote your energy to something worthwhile, like advocating Ron Paul's political goals.
