Question:
Why did Rick Santorum take his dead baby home from the hospital and present it to his kids to play with?

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has evoked squeamishness and ridicule for retelling the story of the death of his son, Gabriel, at 20 weeks gestation and the family's unconventional response -- taking the body home from the hospital and allowing their other children to cuddle the corpse and say goodbye.

The Internet lit up with comments this week after Santorum's meteoric rise to second-place in the Iowa caucuses, nearly tying him with presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Some described Santorum's story as "weird" or "horrifying."

I am quite sure that if he switched parties, you would be full of understanding and compassion.

Instead of what you are full of now.

This use to be a common practice.People had wakes in their home. Many would have their picture taken and put into a thing called the book of the dead.

Its not strange at all to want to say good bye to a loved one. What is strange is people would want criticize it when if you have never gone through it,how would you know how you would feel about it or how you would react.

The Santorums' response to the miscarriage is unusual, but not so strange. The part I dislike is Santorum using it as a campaign gimmick. It is so personal and sad. He should not exploit his family that way. It makes me think he did it as a stunt rather than as a grieving parent.

Only a deranged sick person would do this. His judgement to bring a dead child home to his other children (the oldest was 6) was non existent. He has no business being Senator (much less President)

Rick Santorum took a little boy home to let the other kids know that they had a brother who died

Because he wanted his children to be able to see their brother and say good-bye. What a horrible thing, huh?

So, people deal with death in different ways. To ridicule him and his family when they were doing what they thought would provide them with closure is just cruel.
