I wonder what it is the people of Iraq want for the British troops to do for them?

a) Do they want us to stay in Iraq?
b) If so - why?

c) Do they want us to leave?
d) If so - why?

Feel free to make a comment about the U.S. troops, but my question is really about what the people or Iraq want the British troops to do - stay, or go.

I am not Iraqi, but I have a friend and employee who just moved here who is. He says that his entire family and friends in Iraq are so grateful for everything that has happened the past few years. So many people think that the killing and violence has increased since the arrival of troops, but in reality, the violence has drastically decreased. It seems worse, only because the killings, bombings, and violent acts are being brought into the public eye now by the media. We never heard of the death squads, the bombings or brutal murders of entire towns before, because OUR MEDIA WASN'T THERE! The standard US citizen can only compare the knowledge that is presented to them: "I never heard about death tolls in Iraq before the invasion, so we must have done something wrong to start causing these deaths". This logic is understandable, but is wrong. My friend assures me that the country is so much better now that Hussein is out of the picture. Schools and communities are now being built. Jobs are being created more quickly than they can be filled.

I have spoken with him at length about this very topic. He feels that the presence of troops is necessary until the police forces are fully trained and operational. He thinks that the forces should be slowly and steadily depart, allowing the Iraqi forces to pick up the slack, until eventually, years from now, the country is fully independent, similar to how Japan was rebuilt after WWII.

I hope this helps.

I think overall U.K. troops and U.S. troops are both wanted in Iraq to stabilize the county. If both pull their troops out of Iraq, and specially nowadays, then Iraq will experience a civil war between:

1. Shiite and Sunni

2. Iraqis and non-Iraqis

3. Iraqi government and insurgents of all types

4. One insurgent against other insurgent to control a city/neighborhood/street/etc

As you can see it’s more complicated than you think! I know that U.S.A is there for the oil but their existence now is to stabilize their regional interests and indirectly the interest of ONE Iraq.

I am not from Iraq and iraqies would be struglling for food and life due to UK and USA.

So they would like British and US troops to leave together as having one and not other is not the point.

Just the fact that it might be possible for them to post here shows the dynamic changes that have taken place over there.

besides any idiot would realize that the majority of Iraqis want us to stay. Despite liberal media reports the military is doing much good over there and if they leave it will me mass chaos.
