Why make yourself anonymous, unless you have something to hide?

Unless you are afraid why would you hide yourself at all?

True. Some people claim that it's done for protection purposes when asking about sensitive personal or legal matters. But these screen names we have already ARE anonymous. Does anybody really think my name is actually Sky? No, the reason people use the anonymous function on Y!A is for the purpose of trolling and because they are too cowardly to put even an anonymous screen name behind what they say, and even hide their Q&A history when they do show a screen name, because they don't want to be accountable for the things they say or have said in the past. They know that if people can see their name and click over to their page to see what they've written in the past, people will see the inconsistencies (ie. various ages listed, various dating/relationship statuses, various political and social opinions) and know when the person is nothing more than a liar. Going anonymous is the equivalent of writing an insult on the grade school bathroom wall rather than telling it directly to the face of the subject of the insult. It's childish and cowardly.

Now, there are times when people ask questions that are genuine, but switch over to anonymous anyway. It's very needless, and all it does is eliminate their credibility or at least call into question the validity of what they wrote due to the fact there are so many anonymous trolls here. This website used to be actually quite helpful for getting questions answered and sharing information. The assholes were right out in the open, but were a bit more rare since whatever they wrote could be traced right back to the person who wrote it (or, the account of the person who wrote it). Once Y!A implemented the "make anonymous" function, the whole place just went to sh!t.

Many times people use the anonymous tag because someone is reporting their answers and questions. Oh and yes, there are people here that will target a user and report all their questions and answers. In Gender Studies there was even a user that admitted to doing it. They were driven off the forum after that admission however.

Oh' man absolutely true,,,,, I really do not like answering any blue face.

I have developed numerous responses to anonymous questions.

But it does demonstrate your lack of courage when you make baseless accusations while hiding behind an anonymous avatar like a spineless jellyfish.

Sorry but I do not like answering questions for people that do not have enough common courtesy to identify themselves.

I like to know whom I'm typing too.

I blame people that make false accusations while hiding behind an anonymous avatar like a spineless jellyfish.

I may be a whiny, cranky, butt hurt, CON, but at least I have the courage to use my real Yahoo avatar and not make 3rd grade accusations while hiding behind an anonymous avatar like a spineless jellyfish.

They do it because it upsets you. They're trolls. They might also want to express views that don't align with their platform and party, which is sad. No one should be that tribal.

MOSTLY TRUE

Anonymous postings are justified, in my view, when you

ask something of a sensitive nature. This can include:

Legal dispute with your neighbor;

Dispute over a will;

A lawsuit;

Anything that can identify anybody’s real name potentially;

A police matter;

Bank or Social Security matter;

Child disputes during divorce.

But I agree that people over-use anonymity because they

are d\ckheads who don’t want their screen-name to be

associated with idiocy after submitting stupid comments.
