hunger.

Also Junk Food is known to make people weaker & sicker. Which makes it harder for them to be productive American Citizens

At best Junk food is a luxurious item not a basic need.

There should be a federal law against anybody buying junk food. I know this from experience. Obese people eat cheeseburgers and Twizzlers for breakfast, lunch and dinner and then show up at the hospital cause their heart's exploding and they don't have insurance, or if they do they can't make their co-pay.....and guess who has to pay for that?

Right, responsible Americans who eat salads and drink water without eight tablespoons of sugar added to it pay for everyone else who doesn't maintain their fitness. My tax money is funding a bunch of lazy fat Blooming Onion eating leeches who think they can fill their bodies with garbage, never exercise and someone else will pay for it!

Like the one guy said in the comments somewhere....I shouldn't have to pay for other people's shitty habits!!

I thought there already were restrictions on what can be bought with food stamps.

Disagree. First of all, not everyone who uses food stamps is an "unemployed bum who refuses to work"

Many Elderly, handicapped and disabled people qualify for FOOD stamp assistance. Who the hell are you to tell them they can't enjoy a freaking Twinkie or Devil Dog once in a while?

How much junk food do YOU eat weekly? How much is in your home right now?

If a disabled Veteran on Food stamps, want to buy a damn bag of Cheetos........I'll gladly pay his tab.

Secondly, have you ever worked in a Supermarket, with lines of 12 people or more waiting to cash out. ?

As the cashier........you don't have the damn TIME to sit there and scrutinize every item someone buys. This is junk food, this isn't, this is borderline............No one's got that kind of time. Ya got managers screaming at you to move FASTER and clear the long lines out. Then ya got the idiots with the 50 coupons, and want to pay with out of state checks.

Leave people on Food stamps ALONE, and thank your damn stars you're NOT in the position to need them.

and yeahhhhh, poor single mothers might want to give their kids a TREAT once in awhile, .....ya wanna steal lollipops from little kids?

Hunger is satisfied by getting food in the stomach. Here's an article: https://science.howstuffworks.com/innovation/edible-innovations/food-craving1.htm

The problem is that junk (processed) food is usually cheaper than whole, natural food. For the person on disability (which doesn't pay enough to even rent a studio apartment, let alone utilities and food), the SNAP benefit isn't enough money to buy healthy food.

SNAP doesn't pay for toilet paper or feminine hygiene products, either. I would think things like soda could be restricted, but ramen noodles are a staple for anyone on food stamps!

Define "junk food." Problem is that as soon as you make up list, the manufacturers will just find a way to alter the name or the formula and sell the same "junk" under a different name. It is no longer a "potato chip" is now a "potato flake" and so it is no loner on the unapproved list.

It would be a nightmare to try to administer something like that.

I really don't give two shiits if someone on food stamps has the occasional junk food treat. People in some of the poorest places on Earth still manage to enjoy a Coca-Cola from time to time.

Are you also proposing a law that prohibits people from spending food stamp money on unnecessary things like $20/pound imported Parmesan Reggiano or $39/pound fresh dungeness crab meat?

The money is for people to spend on food. Leave it to them to spend it for pete's sake. One way or another they have to eat and it will cost a crap-ton to try to create and enforce regulations about what we value (or don't) as a society.

Disagree, while I don't like the idea of buying junk food, you can't regulate people.

Nearly all food sold is junk food. Sounds good, but I disagree.

Agree. We have all been behind a person checking out at the store with a huge pile of ten different flavors of chips, ice cream, soda and candy. Nothing but healthy foods should be allowed. Why should my taxes go to pay for their junk food?

I thought conservatives were in favor of a small government staying out of our lives. Enforcing laws about poor people buying chips would be a bureaucratic nightmare.

They tried in my city to have no local tax on "essential" food items. The list was hilarious. You didn't pay tax on peanut butter, but you did on the jelly to go with it. There was such an outcry that they just went back to charging tax on all food. You can't make these decisions for people. And been poor doesn't mean that someone has fewer rights.

Food is a basic need. When you are simply worried about having enough food in your tummy, period, you aren't very concerned about nutrition. A 3 pack box of popcorn from Dollar Tree can be a source of emergency food. Not a great source, but it will keep you from being hungry for a little bit. Have you ever been hungry? I mean really hungry. And not exactly sure how you're going to feed yourself and your family, because you only have a few dollars. Sometimes, a pack of hot dog weenies, half a loaf of bread and if you're lucky a can of chili is what you've got. And it's no healthier than the junk food you speak of. If I'm correct, food stamps are supposed to prevent people from going hungry. If that is the purpose, I think they have served that purpose as those on food stamps don't seem to be hungry. As long as they aren't buying a bunch of candy and selling it, I don't care what they spend the food stamps on. But the food stamps should not be used for a business venture. They are supposed to be to keep you from going hungry. And they should only be for those that are seriously in danger of not having food. If you're staying with relatives, the relatives should give you food, because families should take care of one another. The food stamps need to be a last resort only, and it's irritating that many times they seem to be used as a first resort.

Remember the conservative outrage when first lady michelle obama told you how to eat? So I guess its okay when its Trump's administration.

As soon as the federal laws stop subsidizing the wrong foods so that McDonald's is cheaper than a healthy meal, then yes.
