Question:
Isnt USA greatest country in the world?
2011-02-27 08:01:13 UTC
We are far superior as we have the greatest food, and music, and sports like football until the Brits stole it. And we have such patriotic music, everytime I hear This Land is Your Land or Born In The Usa I will have my hand on my heart and cry. I love this country and its peace and liberty, and the peace and liberty it installs in the other countries. I am proud to see that eagle fly!!! And if some hippie burns the flag, they can get out because they are not worthy of gods proud country!

Although my ancestors are Norwegian and I somehow feel pride in knowing their country is in such good condition I cannot overlook the fact that the high rating is at the expense of America. Norway is a neutral Nation and as such has a nonexistent Defense budget. The Norwegians can go to sleep at night fully aware that if, for whatever reason, their Nation was in peril America would come to their aid. If America had the luxury of spending the trillions of dollars eaten up by its Defense necessities on interior programs what a shrine it could be. There is an old saying,"The more things change, the more things remain the same" that describes the proven fact of war. There is another Joseph Stalin, another Adolph Hitler, another Saddam Hussien, another Ghengis Khan even a George Bush growing up right now with greedy eyes that covet what their neighbor has. Karl Marx theorized perhaps correctly about the tensions between the "haves" and the "have nots". Congratulations to the countries selected as the best places to live in the world. On behalf of the American people who have made the world safe enough for you spend your money on things other than weapons of war, you're welcome. And thank you for spending your money wisely.

Yes. And as Reagan said, "if we lose freedom here theres no place else to escape to".

The United States is not perfect. Genocide of the Indians and slavery are reprehensible abominations. But we've evolved passed that thanks to our honoring the United States Constitution. When Thomas Jefferson and James Madison created that document, human freedom came into existence. For the first time in human history a government was founded first and foremost on what it cannot do to its people.

The United States Constitution represents the greatest stage of evolution of the human species.

This question isn't real. I've never EVER met a citizen of the USA who is so blindly nationalistic. Not even NASCAR loving TEA Party hillbillies believe this stuff. I think this question was posted by a non-American in the hopes of eliciting negative postings about the USA in some kind of attempt to make him or herself feel better about his or her station in life.

127 people die a day from lack of health insurance

For every one Talibani fighter we kill in Pakistan we kill 49 civilians

We rank 7th in mobility

We have less than a 4% chance of breaking out of our Birth Caste

We rank 37th on health

43rd on Infant Mortality

Math and Science Test scores not in the top ten anymore

I dunno?.. seems to me you are stuck in 1950's Father Knows Best America.. where it was Kick Azz.. as long as you were the right color..

UPDATE

A report issued last fall by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) revealed that the United States has the third worst level of income inequality and poverty among the group's 30 member states. Only Mexico and Turkey ranked higher in those categories.

The OECD report defined those in poverty as households with an income below half of the median national salary. By this definition, 17 percent of the US population is categorized as poor—higher than all the advanced OECD economies and only marginally behind Mexico and Turkey.

The US also ranked among the worst in OECD countries in regard to the length of time people remain "poverty entrapped." 7% of the US population remain " persistently poor." The US also ranks among the worst countries in "inequality of opportunity."

For those interested in seeing the actual damage Reagan-era policies and an over-obsequiousness to "business" has done to the working American, this is a stark, indisputable visual of the ongoing wage theft, transfer of wealth, whatever you want to call it.

America has been doing exceedingly well for decades, but most Americans have merely watched from the sidelines as our efforts go directly into the pockets of the already-very-wealthy.

And what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Make people who are ashamed of the USA be proud?

Make others feel bad about their own countries?
