For example, if 61 million Americans vote for Trump, and 60 million vote for Clinton, then Trump wins.
Seems fair to me.

We use the electoral system created by our founding fathers. They described the popular vote as 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for dinner..the electoral system uses the popular vote but is more fair.

No, because certain cities have more people. Take for instance NYC which has over 8M people living in it. They could take the votes away from people living in rural areas.
So it wouldn't fair or democratic that way.

Absolutely not. The Electoral College balances geography and population. Candidates cannot favor a particular region; they must appeal to diverse regions.
