could it be that the Iranian government "cut" the service?Funny thing about the theory,no way to prove that the cables were cut.It would be of no benefit to the West to isolate the Iranian people, quit the opposite actually;with Internet access, they can read world views of what their government is doing.

I know...crazy, huh? The thing is, I don't believe any of the cables cut go directly to Iran. I understand that they were cut on the sea floor. Some are wondering if it's an attempt by the US to cut off Iran...have some cables severed, then cut off Iran even though there cables weren't cut. However, it's very hard to know exactly what's happening. It's an interesting topic that should be getting more coverage.

@ above This is what the question's about. Ships did not cause Internet cable damage (AFP) 3 February 2008 CAIRO - Damage to undersea Internet cables in the Mediterranean that hit business across the Middle East and South Asia was not caused by ships, Egypt’s communications ministry said on Sunday, ruling out earlier reports. The transport ministry added that footage recorded by onshore video cameras of the location of the cables showed no maritime traffic in the area when the cables were damaged. ‘The ministry’s maritime transport committee reviewed footage covering the period of 12 hours before and 12 hours after the cables were cut and no ships sailed the area,’ a statement said. ‘The area is also marked on maps as a no-go zone and it is therefore ruled out that the damage to the cables was caused by ships,’ the statement added. Two cables were damaged earlier this week in the Mediterranean sea and another off the coast of Dubai, causing widespread disruption to Internet and international telephone services in Egypt, Gulf Arab states and South Asia. A fourth cable linking Qatar to the United Arab Emirates was damaged on Sunday causing yet more disruptions, telecommunication provider Qtel said. Earlier reports said that the damage had been caused by ships that had been diverted off their usual route because of bad weather. Egypt’s communication and information technology ministry said it would report its findings to the owners of the two damaged Mediterranean cables, FLAG Telecom and SEA-ME-WE4. A repair ship was expected to begin work to fix the two Mediterranean cables on Tuesday.

Why is this piece of information not available to the general public? It would seem like the media should be jumping all over this. Someone needs to do an investigation as to why the media is covering it up and the information is only available to a select few who hear the UFO voices in their heads.

Might be a good thing if it stops Terrorists from communicating

then again it might be a bad thing, There are a lot of people in Iran that disagree with the state.Whatever! still sounds fishy?

The attack of the killer crabs, a ring wing conspiracy, last gasp of the neo-cons, Haliburton looking for work, UDTs from Israel.

One of above or all of the above. Your guess is as good as mine.

Iran will probably try to blame those three American destroyers parked out there.

so far it's a mystery, but the running theory is large ship anchors....but no proof has been officially released as to the cause.
