Question:
What happened to the old democratic party?

This is a serious question...

I've been told that this democratic party is not the democratic party that it used to be..

I hear people say it's been hijacked by 60's radicals, socialist, communist and people who hate America...

I know the old history of the democratic party, the party of the KKK, I know when they voted against civil rights and all that...

What I want to know is what happened to this old democratic party that I hear people talk about that they say was nothing like it is today....

I'm not trying to be cynical or bash democrats, I know some very good people who have been life long democrats and they tell me all the time that this is not the same party that they have supported in the past.

I'm really trying to find out WHEN the democratic party was different in a better way than it is today and WHAT happened to it?

anybody?

There are many reason but it comes down to these in my opinion:

Money

Power

Elitism in that they think they know what is good for you better than what you want to do.

They are playing God--They are against the Ten Commandment yet they tell us what to eat, drink, what is moral and immoral, they try to eliminate God from everyone and make the people rely upon them aka I will be like the Most High.

Special interest groups with again money being their priority.

You can't get what the DNC is for but they are against almost everything but spending your money.

The old DNC went away with JFK.

First of all, the Democratic Party was not hijacked by the 60's radicals. The Hippies then were more like libertarians distrustful of government. For example, there was a huge riot at the DNC Convention in 1968 by the counter-culture due to the opposition to the vietnam war.

Also, both parties opposed communism. Communism in America was more popular in the 1930's during the Great Depression when Americans were questioning the status quo due to the immense suffering of the working class.

Lastly, the Democratic Party is no longer the same because the Democrats from around FDR's time started supporting the idea of Civil Rights. This disenfranchised the Southern Democrats that use to vote strictly to the Democrats because of their loss in the civil war against the Republican Party. When the civil rights act passed in 1964, the Republicans starting with Nixon starting laying out a strategy to get the vote of the South. Then with Reagan, the idea of "Reagan Democrats" started and by the 90's the transformation was complete with the Republicans making up the former Southern Democrats.

Do you mean the one where FDR started social programs that did not work to get us out of the depression and put us in war to get out of the depression? The last good Democrat was not FDR it was Truman, the only president that did not abuse his power or the people's money.Since Truman there has not been any good Democrats,it has been down hill all the way, especially with Johnson. It is gone, the old Democratic Party will never return. It went out the door with Truman.

The conservatives left when the progressives took over, it is really that simple. Look at the so-called "blue dogs" and that will give a person the flavor of what many old Democratic politicians were like.

Its true. The democratic party has been hijacked by radical America haters. Nam had allot to do with it. Today liberals have become agenda based special interest communist Nazi's. The hate and fear they spread through corrupt unions and racist groups like the black panthers and flash mobs have created protest against Americas laws and well being.

Never being a Democrat, I don't really know. But, perhaps it went down the crapper with the GOP of old. I do know that when I was a kid, the bible thumping moral values folks were Democrats, now they are Republicans.

Ex-Republican 1967-2000.

most retired. when lyndon johnson saw that radicals were being trained in american schools and the blacks were wanting a race war, he sold our social security to secure the radical vote for democrats.

after a few years of bribes for votes most people with integrity retired.
