Question:
Question for Americans [Obama]?

Hi,

I just watched Sky News [UK] and it is suggested that Obama is blaming you guys for 9/11.

Obama stated that it was America's "intolerance" of Islam that led to the 9/11; essentially he's blaming you...

Look, it is not my intentions to suggest that your President is barking mad, and I do not wish to offend anyone. However, if the UK government blamed us for the 7/7 London bombings, we'd seriously not tolerate it (and we take much crap from them as it is!)

Why is Obama seemingly blaming you for 9/11? I find it very very odd..

Thanks

I seen that on BBC 24 too; the BBC love Obama, and they're agreeing with him. Oh, how I dislike the BBC...

Islam is evil, and one American poster here got it right, we Brits can see right through that Obama chap.

From the day New Labour took power in the UK (1997), we have had such an influx of Muslims, that it is estimated by 2030 us "real" Brits will be a minority to Muslims, in our own country!

We are now getting very very annoyed at this, and the radical Right-Wing party the BNP (British National Party) are the fastest growing party.

Your America will soon be a Muslim stronghold, I promise you; it happened to us here in the UK.

The great thing about America is that everyone is entitled to free speech and can say what is on their mind.

This leads to open debate on the issues.

I suppose he has a good case for his beliefs, and if someone differs in opinion with the President, they are free to express their opposition.

I'm not totally sure what led to 9/11 other than Bin Laden has a grudge against America. Our Government bears a large responsibility for his feelings from what I've seen in the press. There is probably a lot more to the story than the average American knows. Pres. Obama might have more knowledge about that than I. But when he says "we" bear the responsibility for 9/11 he is correct because we are a government "of the people, by the people and for the people" so it is in our name that any and all actions were/are taken.

We Americans bear the responsibility to change the government if their actions are not of our liking.

This is a good question and it deserves a good answer.

The reason that Obama says this is because of the policies corporate America has towards the rest of the developing world. To sum it up briefly, American corporations send people into developing countries like Indonesia, Ecuador, Nigeria, etc. and convince their leaders to borrow billions of dollars to build roads, power plants, shopping malls, etc. These leaders, who were either already corrupt, or corrupted by the American Businessman go and borrow billions of dollars to build these things from the World Bank, the USA, or other financial source. (note: this source also includes UK banks). This money largely comes back to the USA because the leaders of these countries hire American companies like Haliburton to go in and build this infrastructure.

Now, this infrastructure, which only really benefits the very rich in these developing countries, puts these countries so far into debt that they struggle to simply pay the interest on these loans. These countries become so indebted to the USA that their entire GNP does not equal the interest on the loans they took.

Here is where the hate comes in....

Since the USA knows that these countries cannot pay back the debt they owe to the USA, the USA tells them to allow American corporations to come and either mine, or drill on their land for oil or other resources. Now, the local people there, who have already had their rivers dammed up and lands paved over by infrastructure projects from American companies now see their government giving away large parts of the lands that they live on to American corporations. The American Corporations go in and kick everyone who is on this land out, most of the time they do it forcibly. These people get very angry and fight back against the USA for the land that was taken from them.

That is the cause of the global hatred for the USA. This is what Obama speaks of.

I am not saying that it is right or wrong, good or bad. I am not saying that you should hate or love the USA. These are just the facts and the reason for Obama's apologetic tone.

The Brits see right through Obama & are not afraid to say so. It's too bad that the media

in the U.S. is just part of Obama's cheer leading squad, with just a very few exceptions.

If al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the history of the United States has a president worked so actively against the interests of his own people - not even Jimmy Carter.

Obama's problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead, it sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US Constitution. Obama is not at war with terrorists, but with his Republican fellow citizens. He has never abandoned the campaign trail.

That is why he opened Pandora's Box by publishing the Justice Department's legal opinions on waterboarding and other hardline interrogation techniques. He cynically subordinated the national interest to his partisan desire to embarrass the Republicans. Then he had to rush to Langley, Virginia to try to reassure a demoralised CIA that had just discovered the President of the United States was an even more formidable foe than al-Qaeda.

"Don't be discouraged by what's happened the last few weeks," he told intelligence officers. Is he kidding? Thanks to him, al-Qaeda knows the private interrogation techniques available to the US intelligence agencies and can train its operatives to withstand them - or would do so, if they had not already been outlawed.

So, next time a senior al-Qaeda hood is captured, all the CIA can do is ask him nicely if he would care to reveal when a major population centre is due to be hit by a terror spectacular, or which American city is about to be irradiated by a dirty bomb. Your view of this situation will be dictated by one simple criterion: whether or not you watched the people jumping from the twin towers...

President Pantywaist's recent world tour, cosying up to all the bad guys, excited the ambitions of America's enemies. Here, they realised, is a sucker they can really take to the cleaners. His only enemies are fellow Americans. Which prompts the question: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

I don't think that he actually blames us for what happened on 9/11. I think he is trying to say...we know our actions prior to that time may have in part led to the issues that fueled radical Islam. Although it was not the intent of the U.S. to tell other people what they must do...we have always stood for liberty and freedom of the individual...and in places where that is not the common thinking, it may appear that we are condemning them for the way they live and treat people. Right now, to avoid further problems...I think Obama is kind of bending over backwards in an attempt to show that America is not like the way the rest of the world sees us. However, in doing so...it is coming off as apologizing for who we are...and I think that is wrong.

What Americans do need to remember is that we as a people do not have the right to tell others what to do....even if they are doing the wrong thing. We are not perfect by any means either...

Peace and blessings be upon you.

Whatever was the cause ,What's wrong about love and Tolerance.

What's wrong in a new relationship ,start by respect , union and cooperation between America and Islamic society for more peacful, safe world.

No one can deny the damage occuring now in the islamic society ,and no one support terrorism where ever happened...so,we have to stand together..

And Who will stand in front of this step is declaring himself as an enemy to peace .and this is not accepted....let's encourage that and open new page for a new better world.

An informed person can see right through that lymie bullshit. After all its too bad the united states didn't look the other way and let the Germans blow London off the fking map in WW2.

Obama is not blaming America for 9/11. I suspect Sky News is not quite the objective news source you believe it to be. I bet they are portraying Obama's speech in this manner to destroy confidence in America's more liberal politicians and, by proxy, British liberal politicians as well.

Obama is actually admitting that western culture has not treated Muslims the best. He believes that Muslims will never tolerate peace with western culture if we continue to portray Muslims as the bad guys. If we want Muslims to admit their mistakes and treat us with more tolerance and respect, we must be willing to do the same. Or do you actually find it easy to make peace with people who claim to be blameless in your conflicts?

Edit: I'm sorry. I got the impression that you believe the information you are getting from Sky News was completely objective. I don't watch Sky News, so I have no point of reference to judge their objectivity. In the States, media outlets are regularly criticized for their objectivity, and my first impression upon reading your question is that Sky News is distorting the story rather than that Obama is blaming 9/11 on America's behavior.

goes to hell.

Obama, by saying that, has just spit on the face of all our military and

Americans won't mind this. Just read in the papers if you can see one American complaining about the President's attack against his own people. C'mon, media like this.

It's true. Bush's foreign policy on the Middle East is what caused the 9/11 attacks.

I think of intolerance of Islam did lead to it, but I don't think that alone caused it. It was also their intolerance of us. It goes both ways.

Did you JUST find America on a map?

This country is populated with nothing but a bunch of self-hating, overly sensitive and whiney babies.

Sky News "suggested?" That's not reporting the news, that's making it up. We need more people who are critical thinkers and can recognize bs for what it is.

I stand by my answer, a reporter "suggesting" is giving their interpretation, it is not reporting what Presiden Obama actually said so that the public can draw their own conclusion.

Thank you for the debate.
