Question:
I'm confused. Can a Liberal explain to me...?
2007-01-25 08:09:52 UTC
Can a liberal explain to me what it is about a living human being that makes them LESS of a living human being just because they are on the other side of the birth canal? I mean if it is a development issue, then couldn't we just as easily just kill babies on the grounds that they are not old enough to fend for themselves yet? Or how about killing children that have not reached adulthood?
If is a geographic issue (out of the womb as opposed to inside the womb) couldn't we just as easily say that it is OK to kill anyone as long as they are, let's say, covered by a blanket? Or maybe, inside a car? What is so special about the birth canal, or womb that makes killing a living human being OK?

Yes you are confused.

It's very simple. Zygote, embryo, fetus are all terms relating to prenatal stages of development. The key word is PRENATAL. Not yet born.

Could you kill something covered by a blanket? Please, that's ridiculous...

Oh and I thought conservatives were logical and not emotional???

Why do conservatives such as yourself see it fit to insult our beliefs so openly? There are many reasons why, and they actually make sense. Every heard of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome? How about ectopic pregnancies? What if a family has a baby with Down Syndrome and has absolutely no means to take care of it whatsoever? Or what about a baby born to a rape victim? When that child asks one day, "Mommy, where's daddy?" What are they supposed to say? "No, baby, you don't have a daddy. You were only born because I was hurt, terrorized and traumatized. If things had been right, you wouldn't have been born." ? Just think before you say things like that.

By the way, do you think it's easy for someone to just say they're going to get an abortion and do it? Well, it's not. I know people that have had to do it. It wasn't a choice. It was one of the hardest, if not THE hardest, thing they ever had to do. Don't act like everyone who gets an abortion is just some stupid whore that got knocked up. There are so many things that can happen, and lives can be made terrible and be turned upside down. It's not fair to a mother or child for that child to be born if it's not going to live a healthy life.

I believe it's a functioning higher brain that makes us human.

In the first few months of a pregnancy, not only is there not a brain, there aren't even organs - just a clump of cells. As such, I have no problem with say, first trimester abortions (which are the vast majority of all those performed).

I do accept that there can be legitimate debate after that, and I'm glad to belong to a party (Democratic Party) that accepts members who have a variety of beliefs on this issue.

What I would hate to see is a law that states that a little clump of cells that might or might not eventually become a person has more rights than the woman it's in.

Because, particularly in the first trimester, the fetus is for all intents and purposes a part of the woman body. It's not a complete human being. Therefor it's up to the woman to decide based on all of the factors in her life if she can take the pregnancy to term.

I do have a problem with middle to late trimester abortions. If a woman waits that long before deciding to have one, and her health is not at risk, I question her judgment.

I also wonder why so many people who are adamantly against abortion are willing to make an exception in the case of rape. The argument that the unborn is a life and is innocent shouldn't go away because the pregnancy was the result of a violent act.

let me answer by asking you a bit more...

what would you do if your daughter was violently raped, and became pregnant by someone who was infected with the AIDS virus, and the child was going to be born HIV-positive...

what would you do then?

as well....what would you do if the fetus were severely deformed inside the womb?... how would you deal with this?..

long ago, Doctors and mid-wives took care of the problem by "dealing" with the issue immediately: the child, who could not live long, was put out of misery: we now call that murder, or "mercy-killing", or euthanasia. NOW where do you go?..NOW what do you do?...

Abortion is a personal choice...one to not be taken lightly, and one which may be a decision that may be only completed by the people involved.

Until this actually lands itself on YOUR OWN doorstep, don't judge others for their decisions, or for their ideals and morals. You have yours, don't push them onto others by trying to make up other peoples' midns FOR them, instead of WITH them,,,,there IS a big difference...

Not everyone who chooses abortion is an "infanticide-lover" or murderer...please help the people answering to use better wording.

As well, what is it that makes you think that you can politicize all of this by attempting to insult someone who has a liberal view?...why are you using the term "Liberal" as an insult?...are they not allowed to have their opinions, just like you?

well lets put it this way if you were to give birth prematurely at 20 weeks the fetus would not survive so we'll give it a few more weeks lets say 26 weeks it is not unheard of and 1 percent of these fetus survive with extrema complications through out there life. most abortions are preformed at no later than 9 weeks except for late term which is not something that is done often it is usually only done if there is severe damage to the fetus and neither baby or mom would not survive. have you ever given birth to a dead baby i did it is something that no women should ever have to go through and when our doc told us of the problems my husband and i would not even consider abortion but now i would so if i ever become pregnant again i would like to still have the option to CHOOSE wither i would give birth to a dead baby again because i won't ever ever go through that again .and i just want to know if your of the mind set that abortion is wrong but you give three cheers to they psycho who kills the abortion doctor so maybe you should think about this issue a little harder and stop trying to change the minds of people who just don't want all our rights taken away.....and hopefully you'll never have to go through the horrible pain that my husband and i and our famlies have went through..... but if you give up your right to make up your own choice you'll have no option but to go through what i and many other women who have went through who i would never want anyone to go through.... just so you know if you want to do some research look up trisomay 18 and see what happend to my beautiful (at least to us) son who was buried 3 days after he was born..

All stages of human life are alive and human.

Sperm, ova, zygote, embryo, fetus, infant, baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, and old fart.

The only question is where do you draw the line.

Every single one of us grew from individual living human sperm and ova babies.

Conception is not the start of human life, it is the merging of existing human life. This is a biological fact. Dead sperm and dead ova babies can never grow into an adult human being.

Well, I am liberal, and I am against abortion. If you want to do something about the epidemic abortion rate, you have to attack the #1 cause of abortion.

The #1 cause of abortion, is, was, and always will be the stigma on unwed mothers from the conservative right. All conservatives with an IQ over 75 admit this, both of them.

You should be asking some of your fellow Conservatives the same question. Are you actually so thick-headed that you think that only Liberals get abortions? Get real.

Oh, get off your bleeding-heart soapbox.

If we had the technology to see if a baby was going to be gay, you would be pro-abortion in a heartbeat.

They justify the act by calling the unborn human being a fetus so as to detach themselves emotionally. What about a father's rights to have his son or daughter be born? Are those protected?
2007-01-25 08:14:45 UTC
Typical conservative completely missing the point: IT IS THE WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHAT TO DO WITH HER OWN BODY!!!!! How can a government tell somebody what to do with the inside of a person........? aaarrgghh!!!!

Sorry but they won't be able to, they are unable to use the big words it takes to try to express their views. Nor the thought process. It's sad cause they don't even know why they feel this way yet they endanger the fight to stop these abortions.

Hahaha oh this is cute.

Viable outside the womb equals living. Not viable outside the womb on its own equals not living. Got it?

It doesn't matter to them. You are using logic with compassion.

Abortion is a violation of the Constitution. One of the basic principles and values of being an American citizen if the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

They are denying life
