Question:
Isn't it time to admit that Bush has been a failure?
2007-01-05 06:59:44 UTC
It is getting harder and harder for people to defend Bush-even neo-cons are jumping ship-he wouldn't be the first bad Pres. we had. I know blah blah Clinton.....lets face it morally Clinton was corrupt but his lies haven't kiled thousands....oh yea the smaller quicker military was Rummy's idea.....

Bush is a war time President and went to war with the blessing of Congress. When times got tough, the Dems bailed and had a million alibis for no longer supporting the war. Bush's popularity is tied to the war and it is not unusual for a war time President to have to endure the wrath of a fickle populace. War is tough and we as a nation are not. That is exactly what happened to Lyndon Johnson who did not run for a second term (so he could direct the war effort in Vietnam and not campaign). Much of the anti Bush talk is just political rhetoric and people buy into it such as that the war was about WMDs and there are no terrorists in Iraq. There were WMDs according to the Clinton Administration and the troops are engaging Al Quida terrorists everyday there. People mimic what they hear and it is not hard to hear anti Bush talk in the US media. But other than the war I don't know if he has a been a good President because the Dems keep attention focused on the war. Is the economy better? dunno for sure. Social justice, dunno for sure. I do know that Repubs always appoint more minorities to cabinet positions and high Fed jobs than the Dems and I do not know what that is. The thing we hear beyond the war is that Bush is stupid and he talks funny. So do most of the people in the US and while I am a genius and have a bachelor's degree like 150 million others, I did not get it from Yale as did W, nor was I CEO of a major league team. War time Presidents are in a fix, whether Rep or Dem and thats where Bush is, though he has been elected to two terms. I am a lifelong Dem and I admit that it takes millions of Dem voters to put a Rep in the White House. Our candidates have been so poor and our party so disorganized and fragmented we have had a lot of Republican Presidents in the last two decades. Bush a failure? dunno for sure. Dem Party a mess, I know that for sure and it does not look like its going to straighten out soon. I am a liberal and a Dem and proud of it but I am not a barking dog and will not howl one way or the other for politicians. I support the President while he is in office, did that for Clinton too and it was embarassing. Billy begat Bush, never forget that.

Why would now be the time? There isn't anything new that has occurred recently that would make us non-gullible people change our minds about President Bush. We don't worship at the alter of the liberal media so we see the progress in Iraq and we realize the astounding achievements that have been made. We have less US casualties in this war than any other war in US history excluding Desert Storm, yet we've accomplished nearly all of our objectives in Iraq. Pretty amazing really. Only kool-aid drinkers would thing Iraq is a failure.

The Answerman's response was absolutely perfect. How long does it take society to acknowledge mistakes??? With rhetoric and fear, this president has been allowed to bankrupt our government, go to war on assumptions and against the wrong individual responsible for 911 and so many other issues already described. Will those responsible for voting him in TWICE, finally admit they were duped. Repulicans aren't inheritantly bad, however they were all to willing accomplices in the last 8 years, they should be held accountable, BUSH first.

He has done some great things for the rich and oil people. He also paid off for the Religious Right who got over $60 million on stuff they wanted. He stopped contraceptives for third world countries and sent ministers to teach Just Say No.

Yes, by all objective measures you can come up with he is the worst president ever. I do not feel Clinton was corrupt, only morally weak. But I would gladly take that as long as we also got the peace, prosperity, and sensible policies that we enjoyed during his administration.

In order to move on in a beneficial direction, people first have to admit there is: #1 A problem, #2 A need to change #3 an agreement on what the problem actually is!
2007-01-05 15:07:03 UTC
You will never get the die-hard cons to admit to any mistakes regarding Bush. No WMD's? Clinton's fault. Failure in Iraq? Dems fault. 9/11? Dems fault. Osama still free? Dems fault. Taliban returning in Afghanistan? Dems fault.

Entire 6 year mess not straightened out by new congress in 3 days? Dems fault.

The list goes on and on......

I long for the days when our biggest issue was a BJ and not 3,000 dead troops.

Bush is only considered a failure to those that cannot see through their rose colored glasses.

Perhaps the next attack on US soil will shatter those glasses and people will begin to see more clearly!

Oh, yes. A major failure.

-- toppling the Taliban

-- fall of Baghdad in record time

-- capture of Saddam Hussein

-- trial and execution of Saddam Hussein

-- Constitution written in Iraq

-- two successful elections in Iraq

-- successful election in Afghanistan

-- killing of Zarqawi

-- killing Uday and Qusay Hussein

-- decimation of the Baath party

-- girls and women attending schools in Afghanistan

-- rebuilding of hospitals, schools, etc. in Iraq

-- bin Laden remains in hiding for the last 5 years

-- not a single attack on American soil since 9/11

-- ECONOMY: 4.5% unemployment (historical average is over 6%)

-- Stock market reaches record highs

-- record number of people who own their own homes

-- record number of people who are employed

IF THAT IS FAILURE, THEN I'LL TAKE FAILURE.

The only reason "Neo-Cons" are turning their backs is because they still have time left in office, and are trying to keep their jobs. When are we going to admit that we are safer in this country because of George Bush. When are we going to start demanding our leaders do the right thing, despite public opinion.

There's always hope that he might do something right in the next two years. If things continue on this downward curve, I hate to see the shape of the world in 2008.

I think that Bush has failed us but at the same time we have failed ourselves. We take propoganda as truth and when we wake up, lots of damage has been done. I am leaning heavily on the new Congress.

Besides, they're not driven by a successful President, they're driven by their hatred of liberals.

George W. Bush's Resume

BuzzFlash Note: Now available as an email-attachment-friendly PDF.

A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY

by Kelley Kramer

I recently had an email exchange with a right-winger from my local newspaper, and of course the war with Iraq came up pretty quick. But he said something in defense of George Bush that really surprised me. In defense of the attack on Iraq he said 'between Hussein and Bush, Hussein is the bad guy'.

My first response was ... So your guy is better than a third world dictator, Wow! what an accomplishment! Does he put that on his resume?

And with that in mind, I started wondering ... what would a George W. Bush resume look like exactly?

Listed below is what I came up with,

Best!
