If a doctor is morally opposed to abortion, is it moral for them to lie to their patients about the risks of pregnancy or abortion if the doctor believes the lie will convince the patient to carry a child to term?

Should it be legal for a doctor to lie to their patient for any reason?

"Morally acceptable"? That is going into philosophical questions which can be argued about forever and never come to any conclusion.

As far as law and practicality, it is against the law and against medical ethics for a doctor to lie to a patient so as to have the patient "not choose"an abortion. The doctor is supposed to be politically neutral and if the patient wants an abortion the doctor is supposed to provide it as long as it is safe to the patient . There are arguments that a doctor can be a type of " conscientious objector" meaning that s/he refuses to inform the patient about abortions or perform the abortion because his or her conscience is against it, but in such a case, a person should not be a doctor. His or her emotions are getting in the way of his or her work duties and obligation to the patient

No, it's not morally acceptable for doctors to lie.

And it's not morally acceptable to oppose all abortions since there can be medically-necessary reasons for it.

And moral reasons too, i.e.: if a woman was raped and became pregnant because of it.

Those aren't doctors running crisis pregnancy centers. I doubt they have any medical training at all. I went to one a couple of times when I was a young woman. It was an awful experience both times, even though they meant well (I suppose). They lead me to believe a two minute (tops) test took over 45 minutes, and made me watch graphic anti-abortion films. And I'd never even hinted that I wanted to terminate. I do not like their methods at all.

I don't know who gave me the thumbs down, but I DO NOT LIE.

Them crazy b itches said they didn't believe in abortion even if the pregnancy would kill the mother (AND child). Something about it being God's will. It's an awful situation, but I don't think it's God's will for a mother and child to die.

It is NEVER morally acceptable for a doctor to lie to a patient regarding a health issue.

It's neither moral nor ethical for a doctor to lie to his patient about medical facts, and may in fact be illegal. In either case, the doctor could be sued for malpractice and/or lose his license to practice medicine.

I can't open your link. However, it is acceptable only if he says he's a pro-choice doctor. I'm unsure what you are on about. There are not a lot of risks to pregnancy in this day and age, unless you ALREADY have a serious condition. It's not a disease.

A Dr. lying to his/her patient is illegal, while having an abortion is an elective procedure.

If this wasn't evident enough, disagree.

It's not only morally unacceptable, but it's illegal for a doctor to lie to a patient.

I think it's wrong. Just because the doctor is against abortion, doesn't mean their personal feelings should be above what the patient wants. If it's uncomfortable for the doctor, recommend they see another doctor. I think it should be against the law, if it's not already.

no it is not morally acceptable to lie. The dr however is not under any obligation to provide the service of an abortion.

There is no reason to lie. There are plenty of risks of abortion that Planned Parenthood doesn't tell people. They are the ones lying.

Neither moral or ethical. Doctor take a vow that starts "First, do no harm." If a doctor lies to a woman about the risks of her continuing her pregnancy, then he has harmed her.

It's rather entirely against the fundamental ethics of all medical professionals.

Doctors having their hands tied by politicians and ministers is really a nightmare scenario, but one that "small govt" conservatives have no problem with.
