Iranian aid ships head for Gaza 14 Jun 2010 09:27:23 GMT

Source: Reuters

* First ship left Iran Sunday, another leaves this week

* Iran says will continue until Gaza blockade lifted

* 100,000 Iranians volunteer to crew ships - report

TEHRAN, June 14 (Reuters) - Iran is sending aid ships to blockaded Gaza, state radio said on Monday -- a move likely to be considered provocative by Israel which accuses Tehran of arming the Palestinian enclave's Islamist rulers, Hamas.

One ship left port on Sunday and another will depart by Friday, loaded with food, construction material and toys, the report said. The boats would be part of international efforts to break Israel's isolation of the Gaza Strip.

"Until the end of the Gaza blockade, Iran will continue to ship aid," said an official at Iran's Society for the Defence of the Palestinian Nation.

While Israel has long suspected Iran, which rejects the Jewish state's right to exist, of supplying weapons to Hamas, Tehran says it only provides moral support to the group.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and others among the Iranian leadership also believe that they are setting up the great cataclysm which will bring about the return of the Mahdi.

Many of them seem perfectly willing to die in order to fulfill this purpose. During a speech in Tehran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reportedly stated that his primary purpose in life is to “pave the path for the glorious reappearance of Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance.”

For example, AwaitedMahdi.com states that the “Last Hour” will not come “unless the Muslims fight against the Jews”.

Ariel Sharon understood these radical Islamic beliefs very well. Sharon is quoted as saying the following about Iran’s obsession with the Mahdi…. “How will they bring him? Through an apocalypse. He (the Mahdi) needs a war. He cannot come into this world without an Armageddon. He wants an Armageddon. The earlier we understand this the better. Ahmadinejad wants nuclear weapons for this!”

So was Sharon just exaggerating when he said this? Not at all. In fact, check out the following quotes from Ahmadinejad about how he believes that the United States is actively trying to prevent the return of the Mahdi….

“They have devised all these plans to prevent the coming of the Hidden Imam because they know that the Iranian nation is the one that will prepare the grounds for his coming and will be the supporters of his rule”. “We must prepare ourselves to rule the world and the only way to do that is to put forth views on the basis of the Expectation of the Return.” (Minor editing for space.)

Please read the entire article as it contains links to other statements and background information.

Analysis. I have maintained the position for a long time that everything that is happening in Iran in terms of the machinations of the government is directly related to the bringing forth of the Hidden Imam also known as Imam Mahdi.

It is obvious from the above statements what Ahmadinejad believes.

The conclusion to be drawn from this information is simple. It makes absolutely no difference what the rest of the World does to convince the Iranians that they want to give up their nuclear weapons programs. They will continue to develop nuclear weapons until they are ready to use them. They will use them.

I suspect the Iranians would prefer for political reasons for Israel, the United States or anybody else to be the aggressor.

They are perfectly willing to give up whatever people and facilities they might lose to an attack on their nuclear facilities. The people will be declared martyrs.

Then Iran will be free to conduct any military operations it considers necessary to bring forth the Mahdi including WMD strikes on Israel and any American troops still in theater.

I really hope not. I don't think the USA is prepared to get into a war with Iran. The outcome of Iraq shows how successful it would be. At least Iraq allegedly had human rights violations and weapons of mass destruction that it was prohibited from having. As stupid at they might be, I doubt the US government is dumb enough to expect anything except a bloodbath and world wide destablization from outright war in the Middle East. Such action would be tantamount to a modern day Crusade from the Muslim perspective. I hope that soon all groups can lay down arms and see the follly of on-going hostilities. I do not see Israel making any friends in this latest conflict. It is becoming completely absurd.

The purpose of the Israel blockade in the first place was to prevent arms from being delivered to Hamas, which in turn Hamas would use against Israel. It is now evident that Iran is carrying through with their threat to bypass the Israeli blockade with ships of their own to deliver *supposed* aid to Gaza. Of course we all know, and most importantly Israel knows what is really on those ships. This is a precarious situation for Israel...do they take out Iran's ships knowing if they do so, the UN Security Council will most assuredly condemn the act and God only knows what they will vote to do to Israel? Or, does Israel allow those ships to reach their destination, knowing full well that they are carrying arms and not humanitarian supplies to Gaza? My opinion is that I cannot imagine Israel sitting idly by allowing Iran's ships to reach Gaza. It is evident to me that this present administration is now going to be forced to choose sides. Iran knows Obama has been lukewarm on the issues, they are now forcing his hand.

Edit - I hope you're right about what these ships are carrying, but without an inspection of the cargo which was what Israel was doing with the blockade, there's no way to be sure. If there is no move by Israel or by the U.S. to stop these ships for an inspection, then I can only presume the intelligence gathering has revealed what they are really carrying. Israel may allow these *decoys* (if that's what they are), to reach Gaza, but if Iran follows this up with more ships, then I'm thinking Israel will take them out. Whether Israel makes a move now or later, all h*ll will break out in the middle east.

So if Iran plans to nuke Israel soon, why would it need to ship arms to Gaza?

Obviously ending the blockade so Gaza can receive weapons, explosives, etc, is important to Iran, so does this mean they don't intend to actually nuke Israel? Gee, what other use could they possibly find for the nukes they are making? And why does Iran need a space program? I'm sure these things have nothing to do with each other.

Of course Iran wants a war.

Were Reuters able to be objective, there would be a few differences in their report:

> "considered provocative because Tehran arms the Palestinian enclave's Islamist rulers, Hamas."

> "The boats would be part of international efforts to re-arm Hamas."

> "Iran rejects the Jewish state's right to exist. Hamas is an unofficial branch of Iran's Special Forces."

Peety is upset that Reuters isn't more overtly pro-Iran.

Yes. They do. Or at least the mentally unstable leadership of Iran wants war.

I've always assumed that once they have a nuclear weapon or two, they would not hesitate to use them on Israel at the earliest excuse. Either I'm wrong in that assumption, or they are further along in their nuclear preparations than we are lead to believe.

As I mentioned previously when I first heard that they were planning on sending "aid" ships, is that they are commandeered by the Somali pirates on their way.

Wack-ah-nut-job has openly stated he wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth so there is no doubt in my mind these latest efforts are to antagonize Israel into some action that they (Iran) can then justify attacking Israel. If they really wanted to help and as opposed to start a war, they would be speaking with Egypt to open its boarders instead of attempting to run a blockade.

It is not that they want a war, it is that they do not believe there will BE a war.

Do you call six helicopters to rescue 54 hostages held over half a year a WAR? ,,,,,,,, Do you think Obozo has bigger stones than Carter? Especially against his Muslim bretheren?

There ain't gonna be no war! Unless Israel starts it, and THEN you will see what fighting a war for the purpose of Winning is all about!

Yes it appears they do want war. They see that Obama's resolve in defending Israel is weak. They think it's a war they can win. But mostly they just want to bring about the final conflict to usher in the coming of the 12th Imam. They are crazy people.

Apparently so since their fearless leader, Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollah Khomeini have both stated several times their ambition to wipe Israel off the map. It is just to wonder when they will make an attempt at such a radical move.

We cannot judge by what we read in the media. For example one part says:

"While Israel has long suspected Iran, which rejects the Jewish state's right to exist, of supplying weapons to Hamas, Tehran says it only provides moral support to the group."

why not:

"While Israel has long suspected Iran of rejecting the Jewish state's right to exist, when accusing Iran of supplying weapons to Hamas, Tehran says it only provides moral support to the group."

Edit: Peace Through Blinding Force: no, not really, just less slanted to the almighty Israel like the rest of the world.

They are trying to distract their citizens from the Horrible economic mess they are in. Argentina did the same thing back in the 80's when they invaded the Falklands, or was it the 70's?

Iran better watch out, Saudi Arabia has just opened up its airspace to Israeli Jets to pass through if they feel the need to bomb Iran

What's the old saying? "Wars are started by corporals and won by sergeants." Every other rank & file is ornamentation.

It appears that the pushy crackpots (the world over) have recognized America's newest ... "Ornamentation".

Yes, they sincerely believe that they have the right and duty to force Allah to send forth the Mahdi! No infamy is so vile as it is prohibited in furtherance of that goal.

Normally I'd say I can't read minds. But since Iran's govt doesn't have one...

They do not want a war.

They are trying to expose the aggressors.
