Question:
Why is Obama fast-tracking a pipeline to nowhere?

Yesterday, Obama said he instructed his administration to cut thru the red tape to build the Keystone Oil Pipeline from Oklahoma to the Gulf Coast.

Er....one small problem here. The oil is in Canada. And Obama has killed the pipeline that would take the oil from Canada into the USA.

So he's essentially approved an oil pipeline to nowhere, right?

Some actual facts will better inform your opinion. What we've been told/hyped by the various media (left and right) is not quite true. See this map:

http://money.cnn.com/2012/03/22/news/economy/keystone-pipeline/

A pipeline from Canada already exists, mostly. The part of the "new" keystone line Obama stopped is a shortcut. The part he is approving now is the southern tail end. So it's not a pipeline to nowhere.

So you might want to rethink this.

As for the sudden "fast track", he wants to campaign on how much he is doing to improve oil supply in an attempt to help us forget how much new development he has prevented, especially in the Gulf of Mexico. Meanwhile, China is using Cuba to drill there and we loaned a bunch of money to Brazil to develop their offshore resources.

So far...but why not go ahead with the part that is not an environmental threat until the northern line is redesigned to miss the critical aquifer water table? Sounds smart. Were you not just dissing him for doing nothing about the line just last week?

Edit: he never made a "decision to kill the pipeline because it's a bad idea", that is right wing hypnosis..he is for it but wants to be sure it is safe, and has said so many times.

Who said that is a pipeline to nowhere? Who said that he is killing the other pipeline? He is speeding up the process on the pipeline that is important while delaying a pipeline that can wait especially since they need another route to avoid damage to local farmers.

"Obama was directing federal agencies Thursday to expedite a 780-kilometre line from Oklahoma to refineries on Texas' Gulf Coast that would remove a critical bottleneck in the country's oil transportation system. The directive would also apply to other pipelines that alleviate choke points.

" 'We're drilling all over the place,' Obama said in Maljamar, N.M., on Wednesday, standing alongside oil rigs on federal land. The president was announcing his plans for the expedited pipeline, a southern portion of the original Keystone XL, in Cushing, Okla., where construction is expected to begin this spring."

because he's a disingenuous fraud. It's all political theater to fool the sheeple

Obama is the only thing standing in the way of the Keystone Pipeline, and anyone with more than a brain stem realizes it

Bc telling the public that his policies have lowered energy consumption has got his base cheering with delight. Of course, what he fails to tell them is that energy consumption is down bc UI has been so far up and a good percentage of the ppl who used to commute to work everyday are now sitting at home going nowhere. Likewise, a good percentage of the businesses that used to consume energy are now closed.

His motives are the same. Glorify his failures and rest assured that the left will not notice the failure.

Actually he isn't doing anything because that section of the pipeline doesn't need his approval to be built.

He's taking credit once again for something he has nothing to do with.It was going in no matter what he does not have any say for that part of the pipeline.

Because he is a disingenuous political hack taking credit for something he had nothing to do with so the picture of him among the pipes will be used in the campaign to further fool his minions.

Because he knows the news media will not challenge him on this obvious campaign stunt. If a Republican tried this, the laughter from the left would be deafening, for weeks.
