Only the first link worked. The Mayans did not predict a catastrophe -- their calender cycle merely ended and their civilization no longer exists to create the next edition. Note that the Mayans were astronomers and their calender depends on the angular relationship between the ecliptic of the Milky Way galaxy and the Earth's geographical north pole. In December 2012, they will again be in alignment, which signifies the end of the old calender and the beginning of the new -- nothing more than that. The human population was around 500,000,000 about the time the USA was founded and Thomas Paine wrote "The Age of Reason." Just within the 62 years of my life it has increased 350% and is now 8,000,000,000 -- that's a 1600% increase in just 233 years. The world's population is literally exploding. I remember what life was like with fewer people and it was much, much better. During my life I've witnessed the unprecedented destruction of the natural world, the extinction of many species, and have experienced a marked deterioration of the quality of American life. The sorry truth is there are already far too many human beings on this planet. Sadly, the fact so many suggest the Guide Stones may be the work of a mythological demon painfully illustrates that the superstitious fools among us have already succeeded in undermining humanity's golden opportunity for an age of reason. Though the organization which funded the construction of the stones is unknown, educated people have been saying similar things since the time of Thomas Malthus and Thomas Paine. If anything, those Guide Stones serve to illustrate that humanity foolishly refuses to understand the profound wisdom of the most educated and knowledgeable men among us, while we stubbornly persist in wallowing in the delusions of our ignorant superstitious ancestors. A few hundred years from now, after our beautiful planet has been destroyed and our own actions have rendered it impossible for our civilization to thrive, those Guide Stones will testify to our pitiful descendants that their greedy superstitious ancestors possessed the required wisdom but lacked the necessary courage to save humanity from itself and to secure our progeny's future.

I provided links from Government websites and someone accused me of posting right wing talking points sites. well, I did, but only two. He didn't bother to look at the whole post but still accused me of it.

People do that on here.

No. I do. Unless it's an obvious troll or red herring. Then I just have some personal pleasure.

Because they figure they'll have a better chance of getting 10 points if they get their answer in first.

I'll read the details, but I reserve the right to roll my eyes when asked to visit certain sites.

Why do I need to read something I already know is biased in one way or another? I do my own research and don't need any help with it.

Because the questions are usually well enough loaded that it is possible to discern the answer without reading the back up "facts".

Because they're cons.
