The Brown government´s current spat with Russia doesn´t look to clever now - though of course it is designed as a smokescreen to divert attention away from the issues surrounding Britain surrendering her sovereignty to the EU.

It's not just Britain, but globally - the world needs to assess it's problems.



Immigration could prove a problem as the UK is just too small to deal with such large numbers of people coming in to the country. There is nothing racist about commenting on immigration problems as I'm sure all cultures and backgrounds of people in the UK, citizens, nationals or newly entered immigrants would want their living environment to be safe and habitable and their future secure in terms of water, housing and health. Look at the problems in China with population numbers.



The whole problem with the future of the world is one of RESOURCES- whether it is land, water, food or space and fossil fuels and oils are obviously a key part of this. Also, we are all living longer and surviving diseases.



We need to stop consumerism if we are to survive- make do with things, rather than wanting new all the time.



I can't say whether the floods are completely down to global warning, but I don't think the way we are polluting our environment helps. Look at the cars on the road- air pollution suffers- the government keeps wanting to build new homes- but where is the land going to come from? Sure it will all end up in a terrible mess.



Terrorism- well I think that will be the least of our worries in the future.



My personal opinion- don't have any kids- look after the ones that are here- the future is bleak. I'm just enjoying what is left of the beautiful things while i can- the seafront, countryside and mix of lovely people living here before we all have to abandon ship!



Ofcourse Russia may nuke us all or Korea - it's bound to happen one day with some nutter. I hope i'm not here to see it and ofcourse having no kids- they won't have to suffer it.

You make a good point about long term energy security.



I am actually beginning to gthink we made a mistake shutting down all those coal mines - even though the cost of upgrading them would hhave been horrendous.



I'd like to see a better balance between the energy we have available in the UK (coal, North Sea oil and gas, nuclear, as well as wind energy).



I think in the medium to long term we are goint o have to make hard choices about paying the extra cost of deep mined coal for new clean-burn low emission coal-fired power stations ...



But the real issue is how toi reduce our dependance on energy - we need more investment in so-called passive houses that need virtually no heating as well as other new ideas.
