For average Americans, the Democratic Party. The Republican Party exists to service the rich. And as for the analogy about the Republicans freeing the slaves, you need to realize that Republican Party of the Civil War and Reconstruction was the liberal, radical left party of the day.Lincoln would not stand a snowball's chance in Hell if he ran for office as a Republican today.

And the only way I would Listen to Rush Limbaugh is if he were going to tell us why he needed to take Viagra with him on his vacation to the child prostitution capitol of the world and when he admits to being an oxycontin junkie. And Fox News is the Propaganda Bureau of The GOP.

Well both parties have their strong points, but in general for the common American the Democrats are better for the American. But if you're a big business owner then the Republicans are better for you but since the rich is only like 1% of the population they aren't helping as many as the Democrats.

Traditionally the Democrats represented the working class and the Republicans represented big business, but any more I think money has taken over both parties so they represent big business and the working people have been left in the dust to pay the huge deficits the government is running up on us. Remember big business pays little or no taxes.

Well Republicans freed the slaves. Democrats beat, killed and lynched slaves.

Republicans passed civil rights legislation and democrats voted against them.

Democrats give men like Robert Byrd high positions of political power in the senate. He was in the KKK and now he is an extremely powerful democrat leader.

I could go on and on but if you are wondering about politics listen to Fox News or Rush Limbaugh www.rushlimbaugh.com

FDR saved capitalism in America with a host of new programs and departments.

These policies went on after the war to create the richest, largest middle class in the world.

In over 100 years Republicans have done nothing but get in the way of progress.

it depends on who you listen too...

both sides twist the facts so that their side was responsible for the good things... and the other responsible for the bad...

truth probably is... both sides have done some good things...

I lean to the left, so I would like to think the dems have done more, but I wouldn't be so surprised if it wasn't about 50/50...

it's a very relative question though of what do you consider "good" and how do you assign responsibility...

They need each other. One side would destruct without the other.

The question is like saying: what helps the environment more sunshine or rain.

Do you mean throughout the history of the parties in American politics? Both have made contributions. Since WWII, I'd sum it up like this:

1930-1939--Dems. FDR was a great wartime leader, led nation out of depression.

1940-1949-Dems. Truman was masterful following WWII with Marshall Plan, growth in America following war.

1950-1959-Repubs. Ike was in power for 8 yrs, but had Korean War 1951-53

1960-1969-Dems. JFK very inspirational foreign leader, well-liked overseas, tax cuts, better economy at home, but problems with civil rights, Berlin, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos. LBJ has 'Great Society', passes more legislation as president since FDR, much for poor, minorities, but had Vietnam. Then at end of decade, Nixon takes over.

1970-1979-Repubs, but Nixon quits. Ford heals nation, Vietnam War ends, Carter becomes president, mixed reviews. Terrible economy, worst since depression, but Egypt-Israel sign peace accords, first time in 4000 yrs.

1980-1989-Repubs, age of Reagan/Bush, stay in control for 12 yrs. Reagan very popular, but Iran-Contra scandal hurts, economy suffers recession.

1990-1999-Dems. Bush wins his war-Desert Storm, but fails to rid world of Saddam, economy suffers recession; Clinton serves for 8 yrs, creates 23 million jobs, balances federal budget, popular, except for sex scandals. Economy basically good, but slows at end of decade.

2000-Present-Repubs take control of both houses, Bush serving 6 yrs on way to 8 yrs, gets into unpopular war with Iraq, not much noteworthy legislation except for tax cuts for wealthy 1%, creates 7 million jobs in 6 yrs, economy stable, unemployment 4.5%, inflation low.

There's my review. Both parties have done well in times, but not so well, too. Take your pick.
