Besides the fact that so many are simply undereducated (ignorant), there are those who will rationalize greed by calling it something other than what it really is - "ambition".

Furthermore, there are others who actively work to confuse those whom they may. They will call greed ambition in order to justify the egregious acts of those they whole-heartedly support and perhaps benefit from. In other words, they have a stake in the confusion of two distinct phenomena.

They are both terms used to define the amount or type of desire that one has accomplished or is working towards. They are in fact both interchangeable terms. Ambition is defined as desire for personal achievement but it can also be excessive and thus becomes greedy. In order to achieve a level in which greed can be used to define your actions you must have had some ambition to work toward a goal. They are both terms that can be synonymous with the same actions although their basic definitions are different, it all has to do with context.

Because the rest of the definition that you conveniently left off states:

Acquired power can be wielded in the name of a vague or clear ideal or multiple ideals. When ambition is used to seek a clear ideal, it develops a close relationship to extremism. Throughout human history, many examples can be found of people who were extremely ambitious, for better and for worse. The notorious Greek Herostratus had the ambition to become famous by destroying the Temple of Artemis.

When your ambition is to redistribute the wealth of other people, you are in reality only greedy. Ambition implies a willingness to better yourself through your own work and introspection.
