Question:
Honest Republicans in the midterms... what do we do?

I do not want to see the Democrats in power for a few reasons: they'll pull out of Iraq, they'll enact universal health care, they'll probably be even worse than Bush in terms of federal spending. Some other reasons (ie. drug war, guns, infrastructure) I can think of that I don't like the Dems for Bush/Republicans are the same way so it doesn't matter.

I do not want the Republicans to think it's okay for them to abuse power the way they have. There really is no option for small government or libertarian wing conservatives in this election. Most of us know that no matter what anyone here says the Democrats will be in power. That might be a good thing for the Republican party in the long run, but for now it's a disaster for conservatives. The real question is, what is the lesser of the two evils?

That's the question isn't it and I wish I had a good answer for you. I am so disgusted with my party right now I don't know who to vote for. I agree the democrats are going to win but at this point I don't know what that means for the country. It would be nice if the libertarians could win, but then there is reality.

The best thing that could happen to Republicans is for them to lose the House and Senate by the slimmest of margins. This would let them blame the last 2 years of Bush's Presidency on the gridlock created by a Democratic Congress (We all know 07 and 08 will be ineffective years for Bush. Not because it's Bush, because it's a relatively unpopular second half of second term President). Then in 2008, you ride back into power on the coattails of someone like Massachusets Governor Mitt Romney who balanced a budget faster than you can say spending cuts. I think that playbook would allow Republicans to play the role of game-changing outsider instead of more of the same. We'll see how it plays out.

I hear you. Then I read this and have to agree. "Voters are unhappy with Republicans, it’s because the party hasn’t lived up to its own principles... A few Supreme Court appointments and tax cuts aside, Republicans have largely abandoned the reform agenda that swept them to power in 1994. Their zeal has instead been directed at retaining power, which explains the earmarking epidemic and the Abramoff corruption that followed. Reform of Medicare and Social Security, the death tax, immigration, health care—all fell off the map.” —Kim Strassel ++ “The problem for Republicans is that they seem to have run out of ideas. They now ask for votes on two levels, neither of which is appealing. The first is that the Democrats would do a worse job than Republicans, which is like choosing which of two ugly sisters to take on a date. The second is they crave power for its own sake. Republicans have failed to give voters sufficient reason to vote for them, except for one that trumps all the rest—they can better defend the country.” —Cal Thomas

very almost extremely. Does every physique ask your self why we won't make a competent digital balloting device with a paper reciept? Hmmmm. wager what, the corporation that has this settlement by way of the rustic - Diebold - is a significant republican campaign supporter. shocked? and think of approximately it. A rattling election device is a similar concern as an ATM, technologies that has been truly appropriate with a trackable paper receipt for some years.

For now, split government is the answer. Don't give either party all the branches of government. Republicans got all the branches and went crazy, outspending everybody in history. So for the midterms, the best answer is a combination of throw the bums out and end up with split government.

What I want to know is how much longer can we expect the Republicans to bore us by playing the "Blame it on Bill Clinton" card?

We have to change the government by voting out every incumbent
