Question:
Does Obama think that the only way blacks can be policemen is if he makes standards lower? No faith in them?

DAYTON -- The Dayton Police Department is lowering its testing standards for recruits.

It's a move required by the U.S. Department of Justice after it says not enough African-Americans passed the exam.

Shouldn't the LOGICAL step here be to make them study HARDER and smarter? Should we just put them on and forget about the test since monkeys will soon pass under Obama standards.

Per your article even the NAACP is against it. It is clearly illegal. Though in Cleveland it would be better if there were more black police officers.

Ricci v. DeStefano, Firefighters Go to Court

In a lawsuit brought against the city of New Haven, 18 plaintiffs—17 white and 1 Hispanic—argued that results of the 2003 lieutenant and captain exams were thrown out when it was determined that few minority firefighters qualified for advancement. The city claimed they threw out the results because they feared liability under a disparate-impact statute for issuing tests that discriminated against minority firefighters. The plaintiffs claimed that they were victims of reverse discrimination under the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Supreme Court ruled (5–4) in favor of the firefighters, saying New Haven's "action in discarding the tests was a violation of Title VII."

Thanks for being one of the few Conservatives that does not block dissenting opinions. Eventually we even found something we can agree on.

You know it's racist to compare black people to monkey's, right? Even in the context you were using that phrase...

The article says it very early on, "Dayton is in desperate need of officers to replace dozens of retirees. The hiring process was postponed for months because the D.O.J. rejected the original scores provided by the Dayton Civil Service Board, which administers the test."

The issue is absent of race, for the most part. The Dayton Police Department is desperate for new officers. What's the issue?

My brother and I were both in law enforcement, it takes a special person to be in law enforcement. I lean right, but in this case, testing standards does not always pick the best person in this department. I got out of it to save my sanity, all the crap you see is disturbing, test scores can't prepare you for it. Some answers are not always black and white, excuse the pun, tact and a little attitude is a must, so when you see a cop, he does not think he's superior, its a mask he uses in his job.

Lol I dated the son of a (Democrat) woman who ran for congress years ago for Dayton, Ohio (thankfully she lost). Talk about a family full of crazy/selfish/alcoholic/corrupt people! Needless to say we didn't date long. I don't know what people in Dayton, OH are smoking on these days, but this just proves once again why OHIO SUCKS!!!

Obviously he and some still cling to affirmative action, in my opinion the very last thing we need is police officers who are mentally challenged! we need the smartest ethical ones we can recruit, and maintain on their merits not due to lowering standards of union pressure to retain them but upon professional standards

That's not the only way, but it's the fastest.

I lived in Washington, DC back in the early 90's when police cadets were graduating who did not test and did not even have background investigations done on them. Some where literally working for the gangs as hit men/women.

This is a result of a hiring discrimination lawsuit brought by the BUSH JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, not Obama:

since when did the Executive Branch have control over the Dept of Justice? Are you slow or just missed High School Social Studies classes?

I disagree with the decision but u have serious issues. I bet you vote based on color and party, NEVER on ideals like rationale people should.

Well, I won't expect the crime rate in Dayton to go down any time soon.

Obama does not run the DOJ.

This issue has been in contention for years. Dayton had the opportunity to select any more broadly used test that is known to not have a racial discrepancy - but has elected to stick with their original test.

They brought this on themselves.

The U.S. is going down the crapper intellectually because of lowering the standards, the standards need to be made harder not easier.

Believe it or not there was a time when people had to know what they were doing.

Whoever does the job the best should get the job. Race quotas should not play a factor.

Lower standards is the Liberal way.

Let's bring everyone down to the lowest common denominator

IN living standard

In education

In job performance

In earnings

Now, we are finally equal. We suck at everything but we all equally suck.
