Question:
Would it be wrong of me to expose to right-wing masses that America was founded a Freemasonic county?

Not a Christian nation. Look at the Freemason's symbols, they are primarily Egyptian. Look at the Seal of the United States, look at the back of the dollar bill and you can see one of their predominant symbols, the All-Seeing Eye of Horus, look at the Washington Monument, an Egyptian obelisk. Christian nation my ***.

There is probably no point in addressing the poster as he/she is already convinced of their own ideas. So I'll just debunk the nonsense instead for any who may stumble onto this.

Although the founding fathers were mostly Christian, they believed that there should be a definite separation between Church (any faith) and State. They were all from Europe and they saw first hand what can happen when the Church and the Government are intertwined. So they had a chance to start a new government based on enlightenment ideals of reason and rationalism. All the while respecting one's basic human right to choose and practice his own faith.

The fact that some of the founding fathers were Freemasons should make no more of a difference that the color of their hair or their shoe size would matter. The FACT is that there were 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence and 9 were Freemasons, that a whopping 16%, hardly many, definitely not most. The Fact is that 39 individuals signed the US Constitution and 13 were Freemasons, that's 33% kiddies and definitely not even close to a majority.

Now it can be debated that Freemasonry played a role in the War of Independence, but that role was on both sides and both Americans and British officers and soldiers were Freemasons, but again the numbers are vastly in the minority. It is also debatable that Masonic ideas made their way into the DoI and the US Const., however the problem is the documents were written by a man who was not a Mason.

That brings us to the mistaken notion that Masonic symbols are Egyptian. Well the Square and Compass, which is really the only symbol of a Freemasons is not found anywhere in Egyptian hieroglyphics. So that 'theory' has not teeth.

Looking further the poster points to the back of the US $1 bill, more specifically to the Great seal of the US. Now much has been written on this by reputable sources, including the men who created it (none of which were Masons), so I won't reinvent the wheel and just post the various links to the appropriate documents. Have fun...http://www.masonicinfo.com/greatseal.htm and here: http://www.state.gov/www/dept_atstate.html

So really none of the Symbols used on the Great Seal of the US are Masonic in origin. The all seeing eye of providence has been used for centuries by those in power to convey pretty much the same message, depending on the religious beliefs of the governed. It's quite simple actually. The all seeing eye is a symbol that indicates that God (by whatever name you call him) is always watching you and your actions.

At the time of the creation of the design of the Washington Monument the Napoleonic Wars has opened up ancient Egypt to Europeans and the French scientists took the opportunity to sketch every thing they saw and these drawings made their way into Europe and America and the public was fascinated with Egyptian art and design, so it is no stretch of the imagination as to why Egyptian artifacts and design made it into the architecture of the time.

Since the founding fathers sought to make the US a new type of government, based on enlightenment ideals of reason, with morality based on their predominately Judeao-Christian beliefs they would have cringed at the term 'Christian nation'. That would indicate a "State" religion, something that was specifically forbidden in the US Constitution.

Come on people this is not that difficult of a concept. Please try and think before swallowing the theories that some Uboob wacko is spewing or some other nutball is chanting from a soapbox.

The Free Masons are not a conspiracy theory... Thinking they're a Satanic Cult trying to take over the world is a conspiracy theory, but not that they exist, that many prominent early Americans were Free Masons including some Founders, or that their symbols were built into Washington architecture. These are facts. They were secularists who were against Church-state power, particularly the Catholic Church. That's who made up all the lies about them.

I think the country was founded by rich landowners that were mostly protecting their rights from the British.

Washington was our richest President ($250 million by today's dollars)
