Question:
Opinions on Obama?

I'm a student and though I don't pay too much attention to politics, I am well aware that most Americans are not fans of Obama. I've heard people say that he is a horrible president and I've heard others say he has tried his best, but Congress has vetoed most of his requests. My question is, is he really that bad of a president?

He's a fair-to-middling president. I think better than average. His problem is the Republican Party, not his own incompetence or lack of integrity.

The Republican strategy for dealing with a Democratic president is to demonize him as a communist or fascist, to refuse to cooperate with him or compromise with him one little bit, and to block ANYTHING the govt tries to do. They did this with Clinton and it didn't work well, and now they're doing it with Obama.

Like Clinton, Obama came to office wanting to be the 'post partisan president'. He wanted to get the parties working together on those goals they share (which are considerable!) But the Republicans realize that if anything positive is achieved through bipartisan cooperation, the president gets most of the credit for putting the deal together. The Republicans don't want Obama to get ANY credit, so they have decided bipartisanship is just not going to happen.

For a while, the Republicans in Congress would say 'We don't want to do that. We want to do -this- instead'. And Obama would say 'Okay, that's a plan. We'll do that.' And then the Republicans would have to back off from their own idea. It was embarrassing! So now they no longer offer alternatives.

The Republicans desperately want to be in control. They will do whatever they feel they have to to get their hands back on the controls, and they don't care what damage they might do to the country in the process. They call themselves 'patriots' but clearly they put party above country.

Obama is routinely placed somewhere in the top 10 - 15 best U.S. presidents by non-partisan historians. Those who claim he is among the worst presidents are those who have a political axe to grind and are used to winning arguments by throwing temper tantrums.

But, seriously, even if he only accomplished half of what he set out to do (and he's done more than that), he has to be given points for pushing through his policies despite having the most hostile Congress in modern history. His attempts at compromise have been met with a curious belligerence, and his attempts to make the country better have been met with weirdly antagonistic but empty rhetoric.

Due to his unique racial heritage and popular support at home and abroad at the time AND given control of both Houses of Congress, Obama stepped into the Oval Office in a better position than any other President in history to heal the racial divide in our Country and to solve the Nation's economic problems as well as provide American leadership for the World.

Sadly, he has found himself unable to rise above his personal agenda and the influence of his radical associates, past and present, in order to become a true leader and secure the place in History which could have, and should have so easily been his.

If Obama had delivered as expected and promised, there is little doubt that he would have gone down as one of our greatest Presidents.......a true Leader, and fittingly so.

Instead, he has chosen to provide only excuses to a Nation hungry for leadership and only mixed messages to a World in need of direction.

He came into office at a time when practically the only way to go was up, but has failed to move the Nation (shall I say) "Forward" and has followed foreign policies which have only resulted in chaos around the world.

Historians will not forget the lofty domestic promises and the Cairo and Brandenburg Gate speeches as quickly as liberals have selectively forgotten them.

Obama has and is leaving a record which will not speak kindly of him in the pages of history.

Never before has such a superb opportunity for greatness been so squandered.

Obama looks brilliant because look at who he followed into the White House.

No one on here, and certainly most people you meet in real life, can tell if Obama was a good or bad president. There are too many variables, too many unknowns. What would have happened if the stimulus package wasn't passed, nobody can say. Would McCain have ordered the attack on bin Laden in Pakistan? During the campaign, he said he wouldn't. No one can say.

Draper, Robert (2012): "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives" (describes the GOP's INAUGURATION NIGHT, January 20, 2009, covert SABOTAGE EVERYTHING OBAMA meeting held DURING WAR-TIME, hosted by propaganda specialist Frank Luntz and the ethically challenged Newt Gingrich, and attended by TREASON-committing rightwing Senators and Congressmen, each of whom is named. Before our nation-saving, Recession-reversing, auto-industry-rescuing, terrorist-attacks-preventing, jobs-creating, GOP-viciousness-transcending, insurers-reforming, banks-Wall-Street-reregulating, bin-Laden-getting, wars-ending, borders-securing (see whitehouse.gov and click on Immigration), Dow-elevating (record highs now from 2008 low of 6,900), veterans-assistance-expanding, nuclear-nonproliferation-deals-brokering, U.S.-Cuba-relations-normalizing, highly intelligent, deeply patriotic, and incredibly patient Barack Obama came into power, this nation was severely damaged by the always-fail bad policies of the Republican totalitarian years that took us to the very brink of ruin, and the GOP's deregulation-caused housing collapse (2004-2009) cost millions of Americans their homes, blighting urban areas all across the nation (a huge mess inherited by President Obama---and he fixed the problem in ways that helped many homeowners refinance. In addition, the GOP's deregulation-caused 2006-2008 nearly fatal FINANCIAL SYSTEM MELTDOWN dropped us into the Republican-caused Great Recession and bankrupted most of Europe (our trading partners). We were in two UNPAID-FOR WARS when Barack Obama was elected---and one of these unpaid-for wars was ILLEGAL---an ILLEGAL 2003 invasion of Iraq who had never once attacked the United States and that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks allowed by the lawless Bush/Cheney administration. President Obama had all of this on his plate when he was sworn in, not even aware that the TREASON-COMMITTING Republicans in Congress were meeting to BLOCK EVERY LEGISLATION and EVERY NOMINATION for no reason other than the new President's skin color and his huge popularity. When you factor this obstruction into the equation, and then review the amazing (miraculous) achievements of President Obama despite constant propaganda spews, you will begin to realize what most of us know: President Barack Obama could easily be the GREATEST President this nation has ever had. Congress has NOT "vetoed" his requests. He REFUSES to work with anyone but left-wing Democrats, and has gone around Congress many times. He's not "that bad", he's far worse.

I'm pretty far left, and even I don't agree with *everything* he's done.

But overall a lot of good things have happened under Obama. IMHO he's been a good president overall.

The problem is a small but VERY vocal contingent of right-wingers who insist that Obama deserves 0% of the credit and 100% of the blame for everything that's happened in the USA in the last 7 years. Try not to listen to them.

President Obama has accomplished so much, but you never hear that in the Corporate media, and the Right Wing Media? well, they just spread lies.

A lot of people spread BS on here, so I suggest you only go by people's claims that provide sources to backup their claims.

Obama, having picked up one of the biggest messes this nation has ever known, did quite alright. He could've been the greatest president ever, but he was no where near the worst.

He took an oath to uphold the Constitution and has ignored, trashed and denied it since first taking office.

He is an idealist with special interest groups in mind. He has not been good for America as a whole and has taken America back to the 60's as far as racial conflict goes.

No, and most Americans don't think Obama was a bad President, you just can't hear the average American over all the shouting.

I would say he's in the bottom third of presidents. Definitely not the worse though.

Straight up incompetent. Nuff said. This is what happens when you let a no-name professional academic into the highest office of the land.

Under Barack Obama, the U.S. economy has performed worse than it did under any other president since the end of the Great Depression. After every other recession since World War II, the U.S. economy always regained what was lost and got even stronger before the next recession began. During this “economic recovery”, we have not even come close to getting back to where we were in 2008. In fact, the number of Americans living in poverty and the number of Americans that are dependent on the government both continue to explode even as Barack Obama runs up trillions of dollars of new debt. Anyone that believes that Barack Obama is going to “fix the economy” if he is given another four years in the White House has taken way too many sips of the Obama kool-aid. The truth is that Barack Obama is not going to save you. Barack Obama has royally messed up our economy (along with a lot of other things) and that is not something we should be thanking him for.

Yes, Barack Obama is not solely responsible for the economy. In fact, he does not even have the most influence over the direction of the economy.

However, if he had been willing or able to actually do what was necessary to fix the economy, he certainly had ample opportunity.

For example, the Democrats had full control of Congress during Obama’s first two years in office.

They were in a position to push through just about anything that they wanted to.

But just about everything that did get through Congress during those two years was full of really, really bad ideas.

More importantly, Barack Obama has done absolutely nothing to stand in the way of the nightmarish policies of the Federal Reserve.

Yes, the Federal Reserve does have more power over the U.S. economy than Barack Obama does.

But Barack Obama has made no moves to reign in the Fed or to stop their idiotic policies.

In fact, Obama has had nothing but good things to say about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, and he nominated Bernanke for another term.

Talk about stupid.

If you were the owner of a pro football team and your coach had lost every game for several years in a row would you give him a new contract?

Of course not.

But even though Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has a track record of failure that would make the Washington Generals blush, Obama has given Bernanke his unquestioning support.

Obama insists that it would be a really bad idea to ever question the “independence” of the Fed. Obama believes that it is a good thing that U.S. monetary policy is determined by a panel of “experts” that work for a secretive organization that has no direct accountability to the American people whatsoever.

Yet their decisions have a huge impact on all our lives every single day.

So since Barack Obama has steadfastly refused to stand up to the Federal Reserve and has had nothing but wonderful things to say about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, it is fair to hold Obama at least partially responsible for the nightmarish economic conditions that Fed policies have helped create.

In the final analysis, basically every single decision that Barack Obama has made regarding the economy has been wrong. He has added trillions to our debt while flushing our economic future down the toilet at the same time

When a child "tries their best," you congratulate them for trying so that they learn to keep trying and learning. When an adult tries their best, fails over and over again, and their failures hurt lots of people, you don't congratulate them. You put them in a position where they can't hurt anyone anymore.

Do you want a doctor that tries his best but makes people worse? Do you want a financial consultant who tries his best but sends you to bankruptcy? Do you want a bus driver who tries his best but gets into a lot of accidents?

Trying is not good enough when you have the fate of others in your hands.

And, you might want to look into that "Congress has vetoed most of his requests" claim. It's not true. B0 vetos lots of things that Congress has tried to do, but not the other way around.
