Taking the very worst examples of liberalism and conservatism and claiming them to be typical of either philosophy is neither productive or accurate.

It's my general observation that there are good and bad examples of both liberals and conservatives. In fact one of my very conservative friends and one of my very liberal friends both volunteer their time and labor on a worthwhile project that does free house repairs (roofing, siding, stairs etc.) for the elderly and less fortunate people in our area. They both deserve respect and represent some of the best examples of liberals and conservatives, and I'm not surprised that they respect each other.

Seriously the complete lack of objectivity here blinds many people on a few key points.



1) It's being taped and not in a power saving mode but in a full record mode. Someone put that recorder on knowing within the next 2-4 hours something was going to happen in that room on that side of the bed.



2) The daughter is being purposely dense in the video. If corporeal punishment was a mainstay at this household, the daughter had 16 years to understand what is going on and what she needed to do.



This doesn't excuse the father from loosing control but it does bring an new take in that it appears the daughter is setting up her dad. With the two points above, I don't trust that nothing happened in the other room and I believe that daughter pushed her dad's buttons to get him bent out of shape. In other words, she isn't innocent here.

I just read the article that you failed to link to, nowhere in the article does it say the girl has CP, nor does it say that the judge is a conservative.



I am a conservative, I do believe in spanking your children, but this did go too far. For any parent, no matter if they are lib or conservative, it is best for you yourself to calm down before spanking your child.

I have not read the story, news to me. A swat on the rear to get a small child's attention is fine. 16, they are old enough to know things, except mental issues. If a parent can not handle that, then there are facilities that can. Beating a child is wrong, I have physical scars on my back from that belt (or what ever else was handy), other hidden scars.
