Question:
Anyone else have questions about the runaway Prius?

First, I didn't see any Obama bumper stickers? Is this guy a pretender? Second, as the car is running out of control he was capable of calling 911, but when the 911 operator asked if he could put the car in neutral he just couldn't because he was trying to control the car??? Should someone so pathetic be allowed to drive a motor vehicle in the future? Any chance he didn't know how to use the parking brake? Is our society full of people so stupid they have no clue how to stop a car?

Sound fishy? Wait for the lawsuit....

I have never understood how someone had a runaway car like this. Shut off the key, put the car in neutral... but my guess is most people are thinking if I put it in neutral it will ruin the engine. Guess they would die before they would ruin the engine.

If he was traveling at 94 MPH, how did the cop car catch up with him? Oh, that's right, when the cop got there, he had managed to slow down to 50 MPH. I didn't see any damage to the tax payers police car from when he got in front of the Prius to help stop it, did you?.

Just an idea for all of you engineers. If I owned a Toyota, of any model, I would install a gas solenoid valve in the gas line with the on/off switch mounted to the steering column. That way, you could shut the engine down without turning off the ignition key. Besides, even though you may lose power steering if you turn off the ignition key, you can STILL steer the car. It just takes more effort. (Unless the steering wheel locks with the key turned off. I don't know if the cars still do that.)

I want to know why it was accelerating for twenty miles and only reached 94 miles an hour. Is this the normal Prius acceleration and top speed? Of course anyone who drives a car and doesn't know how to turn the car off should never have been given a license.

The breaks were almost burned off - he did have the brakes on. If you turn the engine off you lose control of power steering, something you might not want on a freeway.

I remember thinking from the start when I heard about Priuses - "That's awfully complicated? How do they keep two engines and brakes controlled by computer safe?"

Guess I was right.

Then I heard it mysteriously slowed back down so the copy could get in front. What is wrong with shifting to first gear? or Neutral? Better to blow the motor than to be unable to text on the phone or whatever he was doing. I believe he was trying to get rid of a junker so he could buy another and get the "new car" credit.

the guy is a real estate agent in california, i wouldnt trust them in the best of times, much less now, sounds like a publicity stunt or an insurance fraud scam to me, with a lawsuit or two thrown in also of course.

I was wondering why he couldn't put the car in N myself. Is it a design flaw or is he really that dumb?
