If you think gun control works, how do you explain this? This article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081209/wl_nm/us_mexico_drugs
says that gunmen in Mexico are going around randomly shooting people to cause terror. It doesn't look to me like gun control works very well in Mexico, so why would anyone think it might work in the United States?

I can't explain it, Maybe I should rethink my beliefs on the matter.

I don't use a gun on a regular basis, all I know is that they are used to kill. and I want people in the U.S. to stop being killed especially at shopping malls and in schools.

There is no gun control in Mexico. There is no control of the government over anything in Mexico today. Apparently that point went over your head. Funny how crime rates like murder in Europe are extremely low and they have stricter gun control laws. But then again Europe has a totally different economic system that is by far much more democratic and fair than Mexico's Oligarchy where there is extreme poverty that drug cartels can prey on. This should be a lesson to America. If we start looking and behaving like a third world country like we have been for the last 8 years, we are eventually going to end up looking like Mexico. And, I'm not talking about the color of our skin.

that's comparable to DC or NYC. They postulate, experience their gonads and reason that it incredibly is by way of the fact something of the country is only too lax. which permits criminals to in basic terms bypass to a neighboring section gun prepare. figuring out on up as many as they desire from floor walking civilian sellers. Whom do no history assessments. it incredibly is a wierd thank you to think of. Crooks are much affordable skates worse than gun sellers figuring out to purchase an arm. Why purchase one at gun prepare finished value? whilst one would nicely be had off the line super much affordable? After being surpassed around with the aid of Holder, Mexico and gangs. As much affordable as a city held gun purchase lower back. $50 for a hand gun. and $2 hundred for a primary rifle. only get the be conscious out and bypass meet the guy with the trunk finished. we are consistently assumed in charge in the previous being shown harmless by employing Libs. extremely concerning to any destiny gun crimes. The blood receives thrown on all human beings. much less complicated to blame and punish the citizen than the criminal.

Statistics and facts don't matter when you have bleeding hearts and an impassioned far left ideology that says everything you do or "feel" is right.

Leftists talk of open-mindedness, but only if that open- mindedness leads you to view life through "their" narrow world view.

It seems like alot of ppl. see, to think you are on support of gun controll. At first I thought you were anti-gun law.

Now I don't understand what side you are on.

I'm guessing no gun controll. I hope so.

Criminals will get the guns regardless. Gun laws simply leaves all law-abiding ppl. defenseless. If you came to another conclusion with this story then you are not living in reality.

higher gun control equals more crime? come to toronto here in canada where guns are illegal on the street. we experience 50-60 homocides a year. and not all of those are gun related

guns aren't the only problem. its the atitudes of the people. not all cities are the same. simply taking guns out will solve it, but will help.

when was the last time you needed a gun on the street for self defence?

Thats what happens in DRUG wars. Has nothing to do with gun control. In fact ith more gun control and more drugs going into California: "Under a nationwide clampdown on drug gangs, President Felipe Calderon has sent thousands of soldiers and federal police to Baja California since January 2007, complicating life for the Arellano Felix clan that became notorious and made a fortune in the 1990s for smuggling cocaine into California, one of the world's top drug markets."

we could have more criminals with guns.

Doesn't surprise me that California is the world top drug market. Maybe they should secede from the US along ith Pelosi

Well, I would have to say we are not Mexico, but gun control does not work period. Would you rather have to wait 10 min. for the cops when someone is robbing you with a gun to your head, or would you rather just pull a gun out before they hold you hostage and blow them away? In that position I would much rather be able to defend myself than depend on other's even if they are our wonderful police force.

There will never be gun control in America. Too many guns and too many places to hide them.

Mexico is not the United States no matter what people think.

er... is there gun control in Mexico?

I seriously doubt it ... at least any working, active gun control...

it's kind of hard for something to work when it's not in place...

even if it did have gun control, it's hardly a point for argument...

the Sudan doesn't have gun control... things are pretty bad there... (much worse than in Mexico)

I guess that means gun control works? right? by your logic?

my dad always says that if you make guns illegal, the only people who have guns are criminals. this leaves everyone else without the means to defend themselves.

guns are a little like something you'd find in pandora's box; once it's out, there is no way to get it back in. gun control is flawed from the start. INSTEAD we should have severe penalties for people who use guns to break the law and/or kill people. that way, we leave the non-murdering gun owners inside the law (and preserve their 2nd amendment rights) and at the same time demonstrate that gun violence will not be tolerated. perhaps a mandatory life sentence for armed criminal behavior?

this is a common sense solution, but no one in congress will suggest it. not the democrats and not the republicans. they like us shouting about the 2nd amendment. its such a hot button issue and they use it to keep us arguing every 4 years.

You must really hate America to try to compare us to not only Mexico, but the most sleazy lawless part of Mexico.

The US has the highest rate of gun ownership in the developed world.

The US has the highest rate of gun crim in the developed world.

The main goal of gun control is to allow only certain people access to the guns. That way, it's a lot harder to overthrow authority.

Usually, the only ones who have auto weaponry and body armor are military and cartels.

It won't work in the U.S. Ever.

My idea of gun control is hitting the target dead center. You best give up trying to convince the Liberals that guns are not evil tools in the hands of Right wing nut jobs.It isn't going to happen. They fear what they can't understand.Besides that they have been brain washed for years by the media.

When we put too many limits on gun control, more people want to steal guns because the laws just give them an opportunity to rebel. So, if we put limits on gun control, more people steal guns and then there's more crime. It's the same with marijuana. In countries where marijuana is illegal, more people steal marijuana to rebel against the laws and there's more crime, teen pregnancy, etc., But, in countries where marijuana is legal, the crime rates are MUCH lower. So, if laws against marijuana didn't work, then how do you expect gun control to work?

We have the highest rate of gun crime because we have the highest rate of crime. We have the highest rate of crime because we have the smallest social safety net. All other developed countries are welfare states that take care of you from birth to death. We don't do that

So what's going on in Mexico is what would happen here if everyone had the right to carry concealed weapons all the time, right?

Just look at places like Washington DC and Chicago - cities with high crime and high gun control. The higher the gun control, the higher the crime.
