Question:
Olympic rejection - more important to Rightwingers that Obama's bid rejected, than the revenue America lost?

The Olympics was an extraordinary economic boost for China. In many, many areas - some only peripherally involved with the Olympics, some directly.
This could have been a great thing for this country - yet I am seeing pure glee from the haters of Obama. They are choosing to celebrate this Olympic rejection as a personal rejection of President Obama. They are feeling satisfaction from it.

Isn't that perverse? Isn't that anti-American? Isn't that a distorted view?

"Li Ning '08 revenue surges 53.8%, helped by Olympics

Li Ning Co Ltd, China's biggest sports goods producer, said on Wednesday that its revenue in 2008 increased by 53.8 percent year-on-year to 6.69 billion yuan, driven by the Olympic Games held in Beijing.
It posted a net profit of 721 million yuan (US$105.41 million), a 52.3 percent increase compared to 2007, the Hong Kong-listed company said in its annual financial report.
The company said the Beijing Olympics greatly upgraded the brand value of Li Ning. The Chinese national gymnastic team, diving team, table tennis team and shooting team the brand sponsored won 27 gold medals out of the 51 golds won by China overall."

There were other cities who also wanted the 2016 games. The US had the games in 1984 and 1996 and will get them again in the future. Since I do not know what Madrid or Rio had, I can't comment. They may have offered a whole lot more than Chicago. I do not think the rejection of Chicago was a rejection of Obama or the USA. I remember when Atlanta was awarded the games and the joy I felt, so I am sorry that the people in Chicago are disappointed, but maybe they can work harder and re-apply for the 2020 games.

The US has had the Olympics 8 times, which is more than ANY other country.

Let's be fair and let someone else have a turn.

Rio is going to win. Having the Olympics in South America will make history - the first time EVER on that continent.

This isn't about MONEY - it's about fairness. Oh...wait, that's me, a conservative telling you a liberal that it's not about MONEY!

I personally don't believe that a city like Chicago should represent America on a world stage.

Really? Can you see it? Visitors being robbed, raped or killed during the games.

A train ride into the city smacks of the Third World as it is, not a first class metropolis.

Nearly as many city residents oppose Mayor Richard Daley's Olympic plans, 45 percent, as support them, 47 percent. And residents increasingly and overwhelmingly oppose using tax dollars to cover any financial shortfalls for the Games, with 84 percent disapproving of the use of public money

Seems the Obama lustre has well and truly worn out. Or maybe the Chicago bid was dead in the water long before today and not even Barack's oratory skills could save it. One to ponder!

The only thing the olympics brings is huge corruption by labor unions and huge over costs, Chicago sure as heck cannot afford this/

It was worth the loss of the few dollars potentially gained to see them come home empty handed.

Hey didn't you guys do that when bush asked the Saudis to increase production on crude and they said take a walk?

Same thing here.

Main street America had nothing to gain from Chicago Olympics.

Given corruption in Chicago all construction bids would be sold for bribes, athletes would be robbed at gunpoint by ACORN thugs as the run Marathon distance, and pimps would double their revenues. No revenues for the rest of us.

Thank you IOC for sparing us the shame of exposing the way of Chicago which incresingly becomes mainstream American way.

Why do you say "rightwingers" wanted it rejected?

We just realize that Obama cant talk his way into anything like he thinks he can and we recognized that taking 3 planes there, spending all of that taxpayer money, not to mention leaving the huge carbon footprint that they are always lecturing the rest of us about was a big waste of time and money, esoecially given all of our other problems and the fact that we have no money to waste.

Turns out we were right.

Actually, I don't know of any right wingers that wanted to see the Olympics moved somewhere else. I hope that they gave it to Brazil since we haven't had an Olympics in the South America.

The residents of Chicago would have been saddled with another huge tax increase and more deficits. Losing this time is good for America.

Chicagoans have much bigger problems to worry about some circus in their backyard that might temporarily create jobs to sugarcoat the real problems.
