The couple is supposed to give the person who performs the marriage a stipend, and of course the marriage license costs a few dollars, but I doubt if anyone's going to buy a private island off the proceeds.

Yes, gay married people do.
They get the benefit of being able to file a joint income tax return. They get the benefit of laws on inheritance and joint ownership of property by married persons. They get the benefits of being beneficiaries of retirement plans and numerous other legal rights accorded to married people and previously denied to them.

Yes, I have a wedding photographer friend who is gay and his business has taken off as photographer for gay weddings. People come to him because for one, he's good at it, and two, they trust him to give them a proper job.
