Question:
Is Democrat cheerleader Chris Matthews right when he says the GOP will take over the senate?

Whats Obama going to do when the GOP has a majority in both houses? Will he spend most of the time trying to defend his administration's illegal acts?

“It’s going to be very hard to hold the Senate — I think the Senate goes,” MSNBC's Chris Matthews said on Thursday morning's edition of 'Morning Joe'. “I think we heard from the Ghost of Christmas Future this week. They’re going to lose the Senate."

He apparently agrees with the University of Virginia's Larry Sabato, from which the following is taken "In this Senate update, we wanted to quickly sum up the state of play in all the competitive races, but also give a sense of which seats are likeliest to change party hands. Our current ratings suggest that Republicans are at least slightly favored in four Democratic-held seats (Arkansas, Montana, South Dakota and West Virginia); have about even odds in another three (Alaska, Louisiana and North Carolina); and — stretching here — under near-perfect conditions could potentially compete in or even flip up to an additional seven seats beyond that (Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Oregon and Virginia). Meanwhile, Democrats have outside shots in Georgia, Kentucky and perhaps — if absolutely everything broke right for them — Mississippi."

See attached for more information but at best I think Republicans may pick up a few more Senate seats, a couple in the House. As to the gubernatorial races, there will be shifts in both directions but they won't have a real effect on Congress.

More than likely, but none of us have a crystal ball. Not even Larry Sabato has one, even though he seems to claim to have one.

"Obviously, a lot can and will change," the website concedes. Predictions made this early in the year are hardly worth anything. There are so many different things that can happen over the next six and a half months that can change the likelihood that some particular race will turn out the way we predict it will now, that there is very little point in stating, confidently, what will happen in this year's races.

He is right. The math that worked so well when Dems won lots of Senate seats in red states during that Democrat wave election now works against them.

Lots of Dem senators are defending seats in red states after Hope & Change has self-destructed, and Obama's approval ratings are in the dumper.

Assuming the GOP does not nominate any more kooks like Akin or Angle, the GOP should pick up a minimum of 7 Senate seats, and a maximum of 9.

I think it just his way of motivating Democrats to go to the polls to vote for Democrats or those nasty Republicans will take over the Senate. It is still a long shot. Republicans will pick up seats, but getting 6 away from Democrats may be a tall order because Biden would break a 50-50 tie thus Democrats would still be in control if the Republicans win 5 states. Kay Hagan and Mark Pryor seem to be the most vulnerable Democrats in red states. Begich and Landrieu are ahead in the polls so far but that could change. And a Democrat win in a red state could further make it harder. In Georgia, San Nunn's daughter is running for the Senate and is ahead of all Republicans running in the polls so just one flip would make it nearly impossible for Republicans to take over the Senate.

Senate will go to the Evil Republicans. Only question is whether they come out with a veto-proof majority. Barry's in for a rough three years; and, apparently, this is just the way he likes it - he's NEVER happier than when he's railing against those who don't agree with him.

Whatever happened to the guy who was going to 'reach across the aisle'? The guy who was going to 'bring a new tone to Washington'?

Well,, when I saw Chris Matthews say this last year.. .I knew that the "Thrill was Gone". So yea, he's almost in touch with reality now.

(cue BB King)

President Obama "obviously likes giving speeches more than he does running the executive branch," Chris Matthews said tonight.

"What part of the presidency does Obama like? He doesn't like dealing with other politicians -- that means his own cabinet, that means members of the congress, either party. He doesn't particularly like the press.... He likes to write the speeches, likes to rewrite what Favreau and the others wrote for the first draft," Matthews said.

"So what part does he like? He likes going on the road, campaigning, visiting businesses like he does every couple days somewhere in Ohio or somewhere," Matthews continued. "But what part does he like? He doesn't like lobbying for the bills he cares about. He doesn't like selling to the press. He doesn't like giving orders or giving somebody the power to give orders. He doesn't seem to like being an executive.”

He will do nothing because nothing will change. The GOP has been able to obstruct America's business for 4 years now. Unless the GOP gets a veto proof Congress [not going to happen] the best thing that can happen to Hillary is the GOP wins the Senate and takes the blame for nothing getting done.

That is merely a feeble attempt to fire up the progressive base to get out and vote early and vote often. Without multiple votes from every progressive in the country the democratic majority in the senate is history.

Chris Mathews has a reputation for being wrong in his predictions. He thought that Rudy Giuliani would win in 2008 and that Michelle Bachmann would beat Romney in the 2012 primaries. But if Chris is the guy you guys on the right want to hang your hopes on, then be my guest.

Well, if that does happen then the Democratic Senate minority can do what the Republican Senate minority has done, namely, block, filibuster and obstruct legislation, plus the President has a veto pen.

Maybe. If they do take over the senate, does that mean they will start helping the American people or not....6 years is a long time not to do anything.
