Barack Obama promised, promised that he "would send coalition troops to Afghanistan". Now, the key thing about that sentence is, "coalition", that does not mean mean just send American troops to afghanistan, that means send other nations troops, mainly France and Germany. So will Obama get French and German troops into Afghanistan, i will be really disappointed with obama if he doesn't uphold this pledge. I don't see why America and Britain should hold the fort alone.

Obama is going to have to be very charming on the world stage from the word go in order to repair some of the damage George bush has done to americas credibilty. If he intends to get other nato members as you say france and germany to put there troops into front line positions then hes going to have his work cut out for him. This will definately not happen over night but is possible if he pulls the right strings. Just last week Robert gates the american defence secretary who is keeping his position in obamas future administration came out critizising britains comitment in afghanistan saying they was not doing enough. Britain is americas strongest allie and has fought hard since 2001 and if this is a sign to come then barack obama will not be able to persuade germany and france to put there troops in harms way.

France and Germany already have troops in Afghanistan, although very few. And the German troops are there with the proviso that they not be involved in any combat operations.

France and Germany have not yet suffered any meaningful terrorist attacks, so they view the war on terror as “our” war on terror. If they get attacked, they will likely pull their troops out to avoid inviting more attacks on their own soil.

They are like panhandlers who are too lazy to do their own begging.

Well it all depends on if they are willing to work with us after bush is out of office. Obama can't send in troops from other countries alone, he needs cooperation from around the world. This is another thing that we will have to wait and see about.

i think you're confused. american troops in Iraq are part of a coalition. these are the troops he is talking about; not other nation's troops.

obama doesn't own the coalition sorry to disappoint you america doesn't own the world they only f u ck it up. the only reason the uk went to afghanistan is so bush and blair could rodger each other without drawing attention to themselves

Obama will not carry out any of his pledges, witness how he broke the pledge he and McCain both took at the very beginning of the race, they both pledged to keep campaign spending to public spending,McCain as a man of his word, kept his pledge, obama broke his immediately and solicited funds from everywhere ! ( some claim he only signed the pledge to trick McCain into signing, knowing McCain would honor it.) either way he's pretty sleazy, don't you think ?

He has a lot better chance of getting the coalition to help him than Bush did.

Everything Obama said during the campaign, was lies.

He lies an awful lot for being the Messiah.

If you're an Obama worshiper, get used to being disappointed.

There will be a lot of that.
