Pretty much, and just people that did not do their research on history.
(1). On December 9, 1941 Japan made the first move by surprise attacking Pearl Harbor after the U.S. oil embargo on Japan for Japanese aggression in East Asia invading China, Thailand, French Inchon. They bombed Pearl Harbor there was no war and when peace negotiations were on the table killing over 2400 of American military non-combtatns at the time, ultimately causing the U.S. to enter WW2. Quote from Japanese general Isoroku Yamamoto “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve”.
(2). We gave Japan the chance to unconditionally surrender before dropping the first Atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6 1945, they refused, Hiritho still refused to accept our terms of surrender after dropping the first Atomic Bomb so we dropped the second Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki. Let Japan dictate the way of surrender that would be a stab in the back to us and our allies, especially to those allied combatants that have died that have fought the Japanese. Japan would infidelity have stabbed is in the back too.
(3). Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both Japan's military industrial complex cities, strong military infrastructures, oil refinements, command centers and weapons manufactures both had significant military presence. Both were large military infrastructure cities to support the Japanese war machine and military, which is why they were targeted.
( 4). Both Atomic bombs killed 120,000-200,000 Japanese military and civilians and 0 American and allied combatants, an all-out invasion of Japan aka Operation Downfall would have killed hundreds of thousands to over 1 million American and allied combatants and 5 to 10 million Japanese. Look at Battle of Okinawa or Guadalcanal Campaign and multiply that by 50 is what an invasion of Japan would look like,
(5)The Firebombing raids of Tokyo alone killed more civilians than both Atomic bombs did, yet alone the rest of the bombing raids on the other 66 major Japanese cities and Japan still refused to surrender to our terms.
(6). The Blockade was choking the life out of Japan. Continue to Blockade the Japanese homeland: Perhaps countless more million Japanese starve to death with all their oil shipments being blocked and their economy crumbling, perhaps ten thousand more allied combatants die from continuous kamikaze attacks.
(7). The Japanese government was getting ready to execute thousands of American and Australian POWS held prisoner in Japanese interment camps prior to Operation Downfall, and most certainly would have if the U.S. and our allies carried out an invasion of Japan instead of Dropping the Atomic bombs.
(8.) Imperial Japan was like North Korea, Japan was a military nation that had a leader with absolute power and the Japanese government drafted their people into the military, Japan promised us a fight to the last man, all Japanese population would fight to the last man.
9). Russia entered the war against Japan in August 8, 1945, the Russians had the idea of that Russia could, with minimum military costs, occupy land traditionally part of the Japanese home islands. The Russians succeed on annexing and terminating Japanese control of Manchukuo, northern Korea, Menjiang, Karafuto and the Chishima islands, Joseph Stalin had the idea of invading and annexing the major Japanese island Hokkaido by the end of August 1945. Without dropping the Atomic bombs and the war lasting longer Russia would made it further invading Japan, and caused similar amount casualties as Operation Downfall except the USSR/Russia wanted to dominate Asia,. So Russia would definitely have divided Japan similar to how the USSR divided Korea and Germany.
So No apologies!, None warranted. It was justified and necessary and not a war crime, after what Japan did to Pearl Harbor you can't expect there not to be any consequences. They got what they deserved.
