Is it cruel and inhumane punishment for Texas inmates to be housed in buildings with no AC and no windows they can open with temps often?

over 100 degrees outside and often even hotter inside?

20 inmates have died due to the heat since 1998.

They are asking for a 88 degree heat limit, is that too much to ask?

The 8th amendment reads, "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted"

Why do you conservatives hate the Constitution and the founding fathers so much? Sitting in a cell with no ventallation in temps exceding 100 degress heat that has killed inmates is clearly cruel and unusual punishment! Yet conservatives that scream that the President violates the Constitution just by breathing, have no problem violating the parts of the Constitution they find some how offensive. You either support and defend the Constitution or you don't, you can't cherry pick only those parts you like.

Yes....cruel and unacceptable for a 20 year old kid to get 15 years sentances for 6 oz of Pot in Texas.....all of these guys are getting out some day, their time in prison shapes them....more on rehabilitation and less on "punishment"...

I bet you would like to see a tv in every cell too. Why is it people worry more about the criminals in our country than the elderly? Go to a few nursing homes and take a look around. These people are criminals, they already have an easy sentence so let them suffer for a few months. 100 degrees will not kill you, I grew up with out air conditioning in the south so I have no pity for them.

I live in Texas and work in the heat both inside non air conditioned buildings and outside. Zero sympathy

Robby216:

You have the right answer. I don't like to see anyone suffer, but, these folks created their own future, so they have to live with it. All the do gooders and sympathysers, should go to the prisons and try to reform some of the inmates, or take them into their homes, when they leave prison.

Jail is supposed to be uncomfortable. If you want AC and open windows, don't commit crimes.

It's really that simple.
