Question:
What does one actually *do* at a political rally?

I'll be attending my first rally this weekend and I am unsure of how to make the best use of my time there. I know I want to be physically present in order to show my support, but is there anything else I should focus on accomplishing?

Any practical ideas are welcome. =)

The best thing is to be useful to the organizers. Have you signed up to distribute printed mateirals or provide information to passerbys who might want to know what you're doing?

Study up on the key goals of the rally and the issue you're fighting for. Being well versed is very important and being helpful will make a good impression on anyone you meet who's on the outside.

Rallies aren't only about showing support but are put together to get media attention for the issue. If you know you'll be in contact with the media be professional and polished and presentable. You'll want to give a good image to the public and not give the press something to pick on and use to the detriment of whatever you're cause is.

It depends on which kind of rally. If it's a "tea bagger" rally, you'll fit in quite nicely if you carry racist signs about President Obama like the ones of him dressed as an African tribesman with a bone in his nose boiling in a big black kettle. Signs of him that are calling him a "muslim", and a "kenyan". Or signs of him dressed as Mr. T saying corny sh*t like "homey" this and that. Or signs saying "I want MY country back!" Or go with black shoe polish on your face to mock the President of the whole so-called "United States".

Last one I went to was pretty cool, a few speakers , a couple video and Lynyrd Skynyrd and Charlie Daniels played.

It's like a rock concert, only usually without the good music, or the young girls, or the dancing. But apparently they still have the fun game to play at a rally called "face boot"

Drink & socialize. Bring a pen and note book, because you will be meeting new people, getting web sites to check out.

If you are mainstream media, you walk around looking at thousands of signs looking for that one possibly offensive one. Then you run back and report that the Tea Party is racist.

You stand around in stupid costumes with stupid signs.

This one will be different though.

It will be anti-hate.
