Are people who spank children just really confused?

Is it possible that all the people, mostly christians, who use pain as a punishment, think that children are dogs? I have seen people spanking children as young as 1 years old, is it because, like a dog, a 1 year old human cannot speak and the only way to learn is like a dog learns?

Any of those people here who trade good behavior for snackies?

Every single one of you child abusers should be smacked across your wet little noses...but it's illegal to hit adults, adults do not behave in such ways because all the beatings in childhood taught them that hitting is bad!! LOL

I don't beat my kids. I need a laugh. Any of you child beaters want to justify beating your own children by telling me my well behaved, respectful and polite children will turn on me because I don't spank them?

Not confused--disconnected. The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, should be applied in everything we do. I never spanked my children, I don't hit my dog. I would want someone to treat me with tolerance, respect and communication , rather than violence. Even a small child understands the power of being physically restrained from putting their hand in a fire, running into traffic, sticking a fork in the electrical outlet. It isn't necessary to hit them. A dog understands the power of a firm, loud NO, without a whack across the snout. The only thing hitting teaches is that self-control is a tenuous thing that can be abandoned in favor of causing pain and fear.



When we spank our children and pets, we show that we don't think about how it would feel for us if we were treated that way. Too many adults maintain the mentality they witness and experience in their youth. They resort to violence when confronted with thought, behavior or belief that annoys them. They remain disconnected from empathy and tolerance. Too much that is wrong in this world stems from this.

Robert Heinlein, in his book Starship Troopers, goes off on a diatribe about this topic, maybe chapter 6 or 7. To paraphrase, he (his character Lt. Dubois) says "I can't understand why they wouldn't discipline their children, using only the patience and firmness needing in training a dog." The root of learning, especially for a non-verbal person, is pain. A well delivered, instructional swat on the rump conveys more than many, many "time-outs" ever could.

I have two boys, ages 10 and 7. Both of them are commended on their politeness and manners; both learned early on what was acceptable and what was not.

Did they enjoy spankings? No, of course not. However, I imagine that they, like I, will give retroactive consent. My parents spanked me when I needed it, I spank my kids when they need it, and God willing, my kids will spank my grandkids when they need it.

And finally, the key word is spanking. Not beating, but spanking. Controlled and directed. With a purpose.

I think that is a private decision and as long as people are not beating the kids - a light spank is their business. I never did it- but people who are less educated and poorly developed mentally see no other option.

But when children are irrational ( as they are when they are little) I would take a lesson from Obama- " I do not negotiate with terrorists." So people who go too much the other way and let kids rule their house ( sort of like Republicans) make no sense either!

Happy middle ground! Wish adults could do that!

I got spanked by my neighbor, who told my mother, who spanked me, who told my father, who beat the crap out of me with his leather belt....I learned to do what was right. I currently make a 6-figure income and take care of my parents in their old age. I think they taught me well and I turned out rather well. YOUR kids will murder people, throw tantrums and yell "racism" like Oprah when they can't get what they want, or live on welfare and make the rest of the country pay for their lives because they are taught by liberal trash like you who think the world owes them something. I won't get the "best answer", but I know that my answer is correct and true...not what liberals are used to.

Sometimes you have to spank your kids. My parents disciplined me as a kid. I never understood why some people let their kids run wild and not correct them. Some parents even think time out is considered abuse...come on. That's ridiculous.
