Question:
Will the doom and gloom right-wing defeat cap and trade?

While cap and trade isn't perfect, it's a good compromise between nations. Considering how difficult it is to get our own two parties to agree, getting the world to agree to something is even more of a challenge. But, cap and trade will result in:

- End of dependence on foreign oil
- Cleaner air for God's good earth
- Slow down global warming
- Alternative energy that will cost a little more at first (about $12/month for a family),but will be cheaper in the long run
- Thousands of new jobs in alternative energy and its development
- Technologies that can exported and sold around the world
- A stronger stock market when people invest in alternative energy
- Better health for our kids who will be breathing cleaner air

But, the right-wing, which is largely in the pocket of big oil and Saudi Arabia (the good friends of the Bushes), says it will be terrible. Do you think their paranoia will be enough to defeat cap and trade?

Pandering to the ignorance of the American people often works.

I wish I had a more thoughtful answer for you, but that's the long and short of it. Americans, even college graduates, are deeply ignorant and intellectually lazy. The attitude that America is the best country in the world instills in people the belief that they don't need to improve, they're already better 'n any foreigner. The American people genuinely believe that Europe and the rest of the world is somehow dumber and more wicked.

"Hatred is something peculiar. You will always find it strongest and most violent where there is the lowest degree of culture."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

What's the American culture like?

"There is nothing in the world more shameful than establishing one's self on lies and fables. "

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Remind you of conservatives?

And finally, the most apropos quote of all time regarding America:

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free. "

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

EDIT:

Just read the answers on here.

Yep, my answer is 100% dead on.

I hope so. The cap and trade is just another scam. Another money grab by the Government that will have little to no result or improvements. There is no such thing as global warming and climate change goes on all the time. Thousands of new jobs will be created, millions more will be lost because factories won't be able to afford the huge energy cap and trade will result.

Cap and trade is also a bad idea, no real product is produced or traded. This is what caused the financial meltdown to begin with.

What technolgies to export? The EPA forced some of our biggest technology makers off our shores with draconian regulations. We can't build our own computers, audio equipment or TV's anymore. Then we complain about Japanese goods and Chinese goods taking over.

Defeat cap and trade, we do not need this hefty tax on us just because we want to read a book at night.

I am not a Republican (Libertarian here) and I think this is a bad, bad idea, even for liberals.

No it isn't working in Europe, you need to do your research....all this program will do is pay back all the people that helped Obama get elected.

Ever hear of a derivative market? That's what cap and trade is...but the chance for fraud is so overwhelming...go ahead and research that....it was a derivative market that got us into this financial mess in the first place.

I love how you throw in the "right wing" so anyone that is against cap and trade is right wing? Whoever thinks that it will fail miserably like it did in Europe is a right winger? That is news to me...a lot of my liberal friends are against this, they know this will hurt the economy further and could not come at a worse time.

Don't listen to you professor and MSNBC, get out, read, learn, our Founding Fathers warned us about Government coming into our lives and this is a great example.

All the energy companies are going to do is pass this extra "tax" onto us, the consumer. They are not going to curb their greenhouse gas emissions and you are kidding yourself if you truly believe otherwise.

It has been proven by nations that have implemented cap-and-trade, that the system is flawed and makes no real strides in a cleaner environment.

What it does do, is provide the government the ability to create an unregulated taxing on American use of energy. If this passes, the average household will be paying *thousands* more by the end of this year alone.

Obama has stated that the conservative estimate of cost to America will be 650 BILLION just in the next 8 years. This is shooting the American economy in the foot, while we are in the midst of an economic crisis. It makes no sense, and Republican congress members have been told that no concessions or compromises will be made - i.e. there will be NO regulations on the taxing of individual Americans.

Forgive me but doesn't cap and trade give rise to pollution being a commodity that can be sold to the highest bidder? Doesn't this simply limit small business as they can not afford to go green initially and the larger companies buy all the credits since they have capital to spare (or in some cases, government bail out money to spare)?

With that, wouldn't it simply be a way to cement the corporate structure further and give rise to less competition?

If it takes paranoia to stop this scam of cap and trade then so be it. I am all for it. I barely can afford my power bill now much less the doubling effect the crap and trade will have on it. Democrats in congress along with Obama have lost their minds if they think this will help the environment or the economy.

I don't believe you did any research on the subject because if you did you will find that in most cases it does not work and it has increased prices on everything from utlities to food. The rich may can afford this increase but the rest of us cannot. I did my research.

No.

The facts will doom cap and tax, unless the libs can sneak it through in the middle of the night. This would be the largest regulatory tax ever imposed on all Americans, according the the Wall Street Journal, and the affect is negligible, if any.

You're out of touch with reality pal. This is nothing more than a tax scheme. God bless.

This failed European PROGRAM have not have a desired effect on the environment at all....

Despite Europe's boom in solar & wind energy , CO2 emissions haven't been reduced by a single gram.

Germany's renewable energy companies are a tremendous success......

Roughly 15% of the country's electricity comes from solar, wind or biomass.....

BUT there's a catch......THE CLIMATE HASN'T IN FACT PROFITED FROM THESE DEVELOPMENTS.

Even more surprising, the European Union's own climate change policies, touted as the most progressive in the world, ARE TO BLAME.

We could end dependence on foreign oil simply by drilling here and building nuclear power plants like the rest of the world is.

Cap and trade is just a new name for the the old Mob protection racket. It does nothing it only costs money.

I sure hope so! Cap and Trade is a death sentence to working families! Try living on your own before you judge the people trying to stop this crazy mess!

Its great to be young and ideological, however being blind is not good, and time and responsibilities like taking care of a family will make you see reality.

Reality- There will be an increased cost to businesses. Businesses pass this on to consumers, they always have and alwways will.

Cap-and-trade will cost $1500 per year per family, not $12 per month.

Green jobs have been tried in Spain, and every new green job cost two existing jobs, and not a net growth of jobs.

My advise to you, is to research if those talking points ARE factually correct. My advise is to at least "consider" the opposing view (listen to their counter arguements) and see if your side can counter their "counter" arguements. If your side cannot, than you need to consider the very large possibility this (Cap & Trade) is a dumb idea.
