As a liberal the opposing views I read are Barry Goldwater, Thomas Sowell, Milton Friedman, David Brooks, and I don't agree with them. (Though they are smart)
Please don't name Marxists, Communists, Fascists, dictators, or murderers, they are not Dems. I want to know where you guys get you info that's all.

The most interesting book was Profiles in Courage by JFK. Really a must read for any American. But sure, I've read the Obama books, I read the NY Times. I'll even read the Huffington Post. If you have any really good authors who present rational arguments (ie, aren't simply inflammatory for the sake of being inflammatory) please let me know.
You really should add Paul Johnson to your list. He's not a GOP but he's a Brit and he's conservative. He gives a really different perspective to history - American and British primarily - and how it shaped the world.

Hello. Previously I considered myself GOP and almost every President (Again, ALMOST) I have read of whose legislation's, cabinets, supreme court justices, platforms, history/careers, and most importantly contributors, nominally since the erection of the Federal Reserve and other financial systems our forefathers have forewarned of (1913- now), have made a lasting impression on me for the two-party system and their two-faced singular motives. I now proudly hail as a libertarian, and anymore I am interested no longer in demican or republicrat views, because they both serve the ends of democracy, and neither of them seem to represent the flag or the "republic" for which it stands.

Aside from reading material, here's where the opposing view has their hooks deeply entrenched: the judicial system, the education system from birth to higher ed., the healthcare system, unions in the workplace, mainstream media, the sickening fascination we have with Hollywood elites and their political agendas, and the heavy-handedness of government that is growing exponentially. I don't need to waste my money on any more books spewed out by the left. I see with my own eyes on a daily basis how they are attempting to pervade our lives with their "points of view."

im a hardcore lib now...(recovering republican...) i find whatever it is they are talking about.
the health care debate is the most prominent so i'll say . i found it and read it,,,(war and peace was shorter..LOL) but i read it and looked for all the things they were arguing over.
in reading the actual text i found what i needed to look into the history of this type of legislation (in other countries) and it's impact on industry/society and general means.
based on that, i made my decision.
i avoid others "points of view" except to find their historicalreferences.

Jon J: Good question. Sorry that the responses you got are fairly typical of the kind of crap that passes for civil discourse around here.
I guess we have to assume that republicans don't have any interest in writers that contradict their worldview.
