I think Cuba's better off if we end the embargo -- as capitalism is brought into the country, the people will realize that it's a much better system than the sh!thole the Castros created. The problem is that Obama basically legitimized the Castros' grave injustices by not speaking to imprisoned dissidents, not questioning Castro about the regime's history of human rights violations, and allowing him to act like the U.S. is the unjust society because we don't have universal healthcare or "free" public education. Once again, Obama fumbles foreign policy.
Fortunately, the ancient bastards will be dead soon -- hopefully the people will seize the chance to set up a proper republic.

I don't want to give gifts to Fidel either, that's just one of the reasons why it's called a free market. I think opening up trade ties with Cuba will help Cuba in the long run. I don't really personally care about this issue, but I don't like pointless worthless political policy in general, which the Cuban embargo represents. Besides, Fidel Castro stopped being relevant about ten years ago.

You make it sound like the USA opening up Cuba. This is not really the case Cuba is opening up because of its need for a place in the worlds global socio-economic position. They import a lot and export a little, so they are trying to move into the 21st Century - I think that Fidel Castro has held Cuba back at the expense of it people and that is a shame because it could be a beautiful and rich country - a bit like Zimbabwe so many natural features and products that could be developed if given the lack or dictatorships.

No. Who cares what Fidel Castro says? Banning trade with Cuba does nothing but shore up it's dictatorship by giving them something outside they can blame for everything.

No...Castro is close to 90 and will soon be dead. It wasn't a terrible idea to open up China or Vietnam...and it certainly is good for US to open Cuba. 68% of Americans agree according to Gallup polls.

Not at all.
Can understand Fidel Castro reluctance to trust the US. We only tried to assassinate him at least two dozen times in the last 50 years. He is old and will soon be gone and a new generation of Cubans will welcome the US economic influx into Cuba.

Cuba is open to the rest of the world. It's just the backward-*** butt hurt Americans who still think it's 1962.

He learned from Iran that he can spit in Obama's face and laugh at him and Obama will still give him the store. Obama cares fare more about what Obama wants than about what Castro wants or what is good for the US.

He doesnt want Cuba to be run by American corporations and business interests as it was under Bautista. Why do you draw your conclusion? Because a country tells the U.S. they want to be independent and not compromise their sovereignty to get investment and money.
