Question:
Conservatives: If Obama is doing so bad then why has unemployment gone down?
2012-04-19 19:10:33 UTC
Since Oct. 2009. Unemployment has gone down 1.8%. http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000 And that's a legitimate figure/dates to use since Obama came into office in 2009.

Probably the same reason that the Dow Jones has gone up 100% since 35 days into the Obama Presidency. The Republicns HATE questions like this. Unemployment bottomed out 9 months into the Obama Presidency and has been coming down ever since October 2009. The Dow Jones bottomed out five weeks into the Obama Presidency and has been rising ever since. Republicans just HATE facts.

I LOVE how the right wingers are disputing your unemployment numbers! When the rate was going up, they just loved those numbers, but since it's been dropping for 2 1/2 years, they have to start making excuses: That doesn't count ALL the unemployed people. Some people are underemployed. Some people have given up looking for work! It's LAUGHABLE how they run from the truth!!!!!

That "drop" is a result of several things not the least of which is the millions of people who have stopped looking for work have been subtracted from the "civilian work force".

By reducing the size of the "work force" the BLS can manipulate the "unemployment rate" to either keep it the same or show a slight improvement even though other government reports show we are losing jobs 12 times faster than we a "creating" jobs.

Remember the 120, 000 reported new hires for the whole month of April? Well, for the same month over 1,400,000 people filed for unemployment for the first time.

A new report for the week ending March 14 was released today. There were 386,000 initial unemployment claims for the week.

If you want to see the weekly reports since January 2010 go to this link:

Be warned! It's an ugly sight.

Wait a minute, a few months back when unemployment was still over 9% it was all the Republicans fault but now that there has been a slight drop in unemployment it is all obama's doing?

PALEASE! You cannot have your cake and eat it too, it's got to be one or the other it cannot be both.

How's that price on a gallon of gas doing for you?

If things improve its the sheer will of hardworking Americans.

Obama took unemployment over 10%, so you are giving him credit for bringing it down from that. It was just over 7 when he took office. Also, many have dropped out of the work force and you will see that it goes up again.

That's the people who are still getting benefits, not the ones with no income at all.

The "unemployment" statistic is a joke. Doesn't count those that the labor department thinks aren't looking for work.

There is another number, the Labor Participation Rate, http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS11300000 , the highest during his presidency was 65.8%, the month after he took office, and has fallen since to a low of 63.7 in January, and has risen to 63.8%. It hasn't been this low since 1983.
