Why have gay-bashers, racists, and wingnuts, all been coming out of the woodwork for the past 2 years?

Why has this type of behaviour and nonsense been so openly accepted by so many, and encouraged for the past 2 years, when in the past this type of behaviour would simply mark a person as being irrelevant and not worth paying attention to?

I'm guessing it has something to with an extreme sense of moral superiority. If you happen to be homosexual, but brought up to believe it's evil, then you have to be even more vigilant at following the 'right' path. Therefor, others who don't really piss you off, because you are going to so much trouble to be 'good.' I'm from Alabama. When King went after the sex toys, many from our state mailed toys to his office as a protest. It made for some funny news stories and commentary. Political leaders who are unable to solve society's technological, economic, and social problems need to blame these problems on some scape-goat. This is a diversion. As the economy and the environment are in serious trouble there is simply a larger practical need for a scape-goat to blame it all on. That can be gays, blacks, Jews. Muslims, Catholics, protestants, homosexuals, etc; whoever happens to be a minority at the time.

In America, citizens are dumb enough to fall for it. If one group of politicians tells the people to blame the problems on a faceless collective called "the liberals", many people will. If another group of politicians tells the people to blame the problems on a faceless collective called the "neo-cons", another group of sheep will believe that as well. Meanwhile ALL of the politicians line their pockets with tax dollars and bribes from lobbyists, while totally selling out the future of the country.
