Question:
Why are conservatives so against high speed rail? Why it is that every time ones proposed, no matter where in the country, conservative?

Movement push to try and crush these projects, spinning false narratives and spending millions on propaganda adds against it. I mean I know why the big money donors are against it, but why you the average conservative voter?

Just a guess but is it because most of you live in rural districts where traffic congestion isn’t an issue? That you can’t visibly see the problems with too many vehicles on the road. Just saying you can’t go through paces like I-495 around DC, I-35 in Texas through Dallas and San Antonio or go down the 405 in LA, without seeing why it’s needed

I'm not against high speed rail, I just don't want to pay for it. They're not really economically viable for long distances given relatively cheap airfares and they don't make much sense for short distances. But hey, it's a free country; if you want to build one then knock yourself out. Build it, make billions of dollars and prove us all wrong.

They take up too much land. We already have an extensive air travel network. We have a huge state and interstate highway system. Such a system would not create more travelers, so other systems would decline. We just do not need it.

Mass immigration and forced integration make public transportation completely unusable for Heritage Americans.

I don't think it's a bad idea. I just don't think government should do it. Government is so corrupt now that it would take 1 trillion just to get the environmental study done. Naturally, the bids would be low so that people could vote for it; but the cost over-runs would be enormous...intentionally so and with that understanding. Look at LA! Billions in tax spent to aid the inner city poor. Result: More of them than ever, tent cities, fecal matter on the streets. Government salaries are pretty high...cost of living I guess.

What makes you think rural conservatives will be voting on high-speed rail services in urban areas?

1. We are $22 trillion in the hole (not that it matters to either party, but it matters to me).

2. We are already able to move from point A to point B in a number of different ways.

3. Look at how the money for high speed rail was spent on California and get back to me.

You libs built a bus system in my state, it cost millions and no one uses it. Looses money every year.

They could have just paid uber or a taxi service for all the users and it would have been cheaper per year.

You people think money grows on trees.

Josh, you can't even write a coherent response.

You are nothing but a liberal hack, a selfish little twit that thinks the government is there to be your mommy.

Grow up, dweeb!

You sound like the type of pimple faced dork that had his head flushed down the toilet in gym class.

They don't want to pay taxes for these services. Conservatives believe that the role of government should be as small as possible, and if the people want a mass transit system, then private business should fund and build it, not government agencies.

PS: As a moderate, I realize that no private businesses have the deep pockets to build big mass transit systems.

I suggest you look at some of the rail projects in USA. ALL suffer major cost overruns. Lack of use. And suck tax dollars which could be used elsewhere. They are mostly money pits. Make one profitable and I will support it.

But, why? I mean, a lot of them live by the sea. If you want to say they’re just idiots you can say that, but I’nt think that is true, even though I believe it is.

What rail project is financially sound? As it turns out liberals now don't support their rail in CA as the cost rockets out of control.

I don't live in congested areas, logic told me to move. I do see the problem. Entitled people driving constantly, making a trip for everything. I see the problem when they visit my house. I drive them crazy because I make a list and hit several stores to get all my needs in one 50 mile trip. They on the other hand make three 30 mile trips a day. I want a pizza, I want gas, I want candy, I want a donut, I want, I want.

Trains will not change these people. The smartest move would be electric scooters for their entitled busy lives to run around their congested city. That would make a big difference. If I lived in a beach city that would be my first answer to personally dealing with the problem.

Commuting is a real problem. So many people drive 3 hours a day for an extra $25 on their paycheck. No common sense.

What is the propaganda about trains?

Level 7 conservatives....please stop trying to censor me by changing the category of my question. I haven’t insulted anyone, any ideology, I’m simply asking a reasonable question. If you’re so butt hurt about having your politics challenged then perhaps you should rethink them before censoring what you disagree with

I don't "see" why "big money donors" would be against such an idea. Can you explain this to me?
