For the most part, they don't have to sell... just allow the pipes to be buried underground.

Pipelines, Electrical lines, Roads and Railways are legitimate uses for eminent domain.

They have been used for such for decades.

The vast of them will not have to sell. They will be paid for an easement for the pipe to cross under their land. They will get paid every year. Seems like a sweet deal to me.

This has already happened. TransCanada sent letters to Nebraska landowners who refused to give permission for the Keystone XL pipeline to be built on their land.

These letters warned the landowners that failure to sell would result in the Nebraska governor's office using eminent domain to take their land.

This plan has the support of Nebraska's Republican governor and Republican Attorney General, but there is strong opposition from Nebraska liberals.

A state judge issued an injunction stopping the governor's office from taking action, but the Attorney General is appealing the decision.

Well, no, actually. You see, in this part of the country, you only own something like the top foot or so of your land. Someone or the government owns...and always has owned...the ground beneath it. You knew this when you bought your land, or you should have. Everyone else did. So the government or a private entity has every right to access THEIR land and bury...and it will be buried...their pipe in their property. The owner of the top soil won't even see the pipe. It will be as though it is not even there. I don't have a problem with that.

The same thing that happens when Democrats want to give land to rich land developers who give them huge campaign contributions! The Democrat "we are for the little guy" government forces them to sell it.
