Regardless of whether Mrs Lee-Kwa Keok Choo, touches anyone of our lives, she was after all the wife of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. What really touches me is their love story and how they came together. Here's my tribute to this lady whom had spent her whole life for the man she loved.

One Comes Empty Handed To This World,

And Don't Bring Anything Along When One Leaves.

What Matter Most, Is What You Have Left Behind,

Of the Love, the Happy Times and the Great Memories,

To Be Remembered, By Your Family & Love Ones, Eternally.

Like the saying " Behind every great and successful man is a woman ", I personally think Mrs Lee has played a very important, critical and effective role with Mr Lee Kuan Yew in governing and developiing the nation from a third world to what it is today, First Class City.

My impression of Mrs Lee in the past was a stern and no-nonsense character. But I do feel very sad when I knew that she was bedridden and not been able to be with MM Lee like before. Her passing away suddenly brought to light many things that I did not know before. The things she had done behind the scene. Little was known about her background until now then I realised that she was such an intelligent lady, kind to everyone around her albeit a very softspoken person. To bring up three children with such profound motherly love and yet so supportive of her husband was definitely not an easy job. Wife, mother and career woman all wrapped in one. There will not be another Mrs Lee Kuan Yew. We will miss her.

I don't miss her But the best memories of her is that she is always by the side of Mr Lee Kuan Yew through thick & thin . A devoted wife , caring mother & grandmother . It's indeed our fortune that Mr Lee has such a virtuous wife , otherwise he won't be fully devoted to make Singapore to where it is now . RIP Mdm Kwa Geok Choo ... May Mr Lee Kuan Yew , Mr Lee Hsien Loong & family members stay strong in this time of your great loss ..

Mrs Lee Kuan Yew is a great woman of Singapore. The success and achievement of today Singapore is attributed to MM Mr Lee Kuan Yew who contributed to the Singapore greatest success and as the saying goes "Behind every successful man there is a woman". As such Mrs Lee Kuan Yew had been the woman behind the success of MM Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Every citizen should be proud of the achievements we have today if not for Mr and Mrs Lee. This will inevitably goes down in history and will not be repeated by anyone as far as I can see.

My condolences on your passing and thankful for what you have done for us. May You rest in peace and the good Lord be with you.We will miss you greatly !

It is a Great loss to all of us, Singaporeans!!! Mrs Lee was a good example as a woman behind a successful man. The women in the world should learn from her, How she had supported her husband, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, through thick and thin. A great woman indeed. What we have achieved today are partly owing to her contributions too. God Bless Her.

In my heart, I admired Mrs Lee Kuan Yew for her supporting role behind Mr Lee Kuan Yew. With her support, Mr Lee Kuan Yew is able to fully focus to make Singapore, a tiny red dot on the map, well known to the world.

She has the most sweetest smile that I have ever seen and it makes me realise that its the smile that really makes people smile back whole heartfully.

Mother of Singapore, I will miss you.

I / we will missed Mrs Lee Kuan , in my time when I just left school, it was natural for us young ladies to just go find a husband, and have children, meaning to stay at home and look after children just like our mothers, grand-mothers etc until we die , but through her example, she showed me and other women my age (50 ++++++) NOT TO BE AFRAID TO HAVE IT ALL , eg. to get a good education, a good job, then a husband, or open our own business, travel , house, kids etc. '

I also would to thank Mr. Lee Kuan Kew for making Singapore Ä COUNTRY that me/everyone can be pround of and being a Singaporean

Mr. Lee Kuan Yew and my daughter have the same birthday

16 September.

My Deepest Condolence goes out to Mr. Lee Kuan Kew and his family

Many years back, my husband and I have the honour of serving our then Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Mrs Lee Kuan Yew on a Singapore Airlines flight.

I remembered during the cheese and fruits course, I offered Mrs Lee fruits from the basket and as the basket was overloaded with fruits, an orange rolled on to her table. At that point of time, I went frozen. Suddenly, Mrs Lee's gentle voice instantly defrosted me. She jokingly replied "Oh! I'll take this orange, it is meant for me." I could tell her reply also brought a grin on Mr Lee's face.

Her swift response of making others feel good is remarkable.

Mrs Lee will always remain a "SPECIAL LADY" in my heart.

May she rest in peace.

I may not have known Mrs Lee Kuan Yew very much, but after hearing about her in newspapers, I realized how great she was and she is really a role model to me. I want to learn from her intelligence and kindness. She doesn't want people to treat her differently from others though she is the wife of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. My best memory, was to know her much better and to learn from her.

I fully supported and would want to wish Mr Lee to be in good health, loved by all his people near and afar. I really felt the sadness when He spoke so much of the late Mrs lee, I just can't help smiling and shedding tears and thinking of the wonderful couple's loving eyes when tv screened them.. Mr Lee is so so different when away from work. I loved both Mr and late mrs lee from the bottom of my heart. May Low

I don't miss her - I envy, admire and salute her.

We should celebrate her life.

Her leaving is not about sadness. It's a celebration of a wonderful journey - and what a ride it was. So privileged to have married not only "a handsome young man" but an extremely intelligent one, a man admired the world over. Envy her for her intelligence, her successful career and long life. Admre her for being such a devoted wife and mother. Salute her for being the wife and mother to two Prime Ministers of Singapore. I love her command of the English Language - making it so beautiful. So many people had been touched by her kindness.

Kindness begets kindness.

So let's bring out the champagne and here's a toast to Mrs Lee Kuan Yew - for completing this wonderful life's journey and the beginning of another.

I do not know much about her but I am proud that she is also a fellow Singaporean.

Mrs Lee Kuan Yew was not recognised much but I feel that she played an important role in the development of Singapore. She always stood by her family and was very supportive of her husband. She appeared to have a pleasant disposition and was usually smiling in the photos that were taken of her.

I think that all the Singaporeans are sad about her passing on and I would like to express my deepest condolences. Rest in Peace.

She was best known to be a partner of a successful legal firm Lee & Lee. Besides her legal career, she also demonstrated as one of those few women whom has successful academic achievement of her time, graduated Cambridge University. Bringing up 3 children while also known to accompanied Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on diplomatic trips and meetings.

With that said, she is a role model of a successful career woman, a great mother and a supportive spouse, and we are talking about this happening in South East Asia, at a time when Singapore was going through a challenging period of transforming from colonial outpost to now a nation with vibrant economy growth.

She will be remembered by me (born in 1953) as the driving force for the inclusion of the 1961 & 1962 Water Agreements (made with Malaysia when Singapore was still a British Colony), to be included into the 1965 Separation Agreement aka Declaration of Independence for Singapore. Her firm insistence and incessant reminders to PM LKY and the then Law MInister, EW Barker for these 2 water agreements to be drafted and enshrined into Declaration of Singapore's Independence paid tremendous results. The Declaration document was lodged into and sanctified by the UN. It is inviolable. Singapore must thank her for having our water needs met and guaranteed until 2068, at least. You have great foresight, Mdm Kwa Geok Choo aka Mrs Lee Kuan Yew. Not many people know of this nugget of information simply because you worked behind the scenes with the interests of the nation at heart. I, a nonentity, revered you, madam, for this. All hats off to you! You are awesome! I kow-tow to you.

Mrs. Lee is truly a great model for us all - men and women - that we should always stand behind our loved ones and be supportive as a spouse, parent and professional. She has walked the talk quietly and have cherished family value to the fullest. She was a successful career woman/entrepreneur and a prestige top scholar with great wisdom and insights. Keeping a low profile, together with Mr. Lee, she is in fact one of the key pillars to Mr. Lee's success who has quietly built Singapore into one of the most admired cities in the short 40 plus years. Without her strong support to Mr. Lee, Singapore may be a much different country than where we are today. A great life and such good qualities that we should all humbly learn from the First Lady. We will miss you!

Although I have been working in Singapore for years now and I am PR (Filipino). I know her as the wife of the Minister Mentor. I admire and love Mrs. Lee Kuan Yew not only for being the wife of Singapore's founding father but a former first wife who had been there with the Minister Mentor thru the years, thru thick and thin and etc.. She is a part of Singapore where it was now; Strong, developed Singapore which should be the envy of other third world countries like my country.

Behind every successful man, there is a lady behind him. Mrs Kwa Geok Choo has been a driving force behind our Minister Mentor Mr Lee Kuan Yew. She has been giving all her support for the great work our Mentor Minister achieved so for. So she directly and indirectly contributed to the success of Singapore.

She has been a pillar in our Minsiter's life, Now that pillar has been shaken and it is gone. We will be seeing a different Minster, with less vigour and drive.

She was such a noble wife and outstanding lady.Often, people say that there is a woman behind every successive man. Her presence epitomized that. Despite being on par with MM Lee in the field of law, she chose to work behind the scene, supporting him and the family in all possible ways.

Singapore is what she is today mainly because of MM Lee, and MM Lee managed to contribute so much to Singapore because he has a supportive wife - Mdm Kwa Geok Choo. Their love touches me deeply.

Rest in Peace, Mrs Lee Kuan Yew.

Mrs Lee Kuan Yew was and will always remain the Mother of Singapore.

She was such a beautiful person in every aspect. Being the wife of someone important did not cause her to be arrogant. There is just so much to learn from her in this modern society to being a great wife, mother and grandmother. She had indeed thought me to re-think about the love we ought to show to our loved ones, whom we have most of the time taken for granted.

She will be greatly missed.

Had heard about how great this lady was but never really gave it a second thought... even a cab driver, just last month (out of the blues) asked my son if he knew who is Kwa Geok Choo. Of course, my son did not. The cab driver told him that he must acknowledge this great lady. To be honest, i was puzzled why he mentioned it. But from the tributes these two days, I can feel that this great lady must have quietly touched many lives and is definitely a role model for all of us married women and mums. There is only one thing, that Mrs. Lee Kuan Yew, words that i will not forget, i used to work and live in Singapore, One day i was at the Cold Storage, both of the are there buying their Groceries, and I greet them without 2nd thought, and she start talking, she said, that "treat Singapore as your home" from there i know she is a person, who care for others, which is make a lot of different for a person like me, who is totally stranger in foreign country. I really appreciate her kindness and humble thought for other.

My memory of the late Mrs Lee Kuan Yew is her contribution to the law in Singapore to protect all women.

Since my Primary School Days till now, I am going 57, most times, whether it is on TV or The Newspapers, they are always together. She is the woman behind the success of MM Lee struggles over the years, without her relentless support MM Lee might not be able to make us what we are today, true spirit of Singaporeans pride. The wake should be 7 days for all Singaporeans to see her for the last time and The Singapore Flag should be Half Mast for her. She must be accorded the highest respect internationally too! An Iron Master with an Iron supporter is how I describe her. My heart goes out to MM Lee, for losing his closest one & to PM Lee, L H Y, Wei Ling & all in the family, my sadness and sorrow are being shared with all of you. What will I miss most about Mrs Lee Kuan Yew? The fact that they have lived till their hair had grown grey, both in sickness and in health, and till the last days in death till they part - this is what I will miss most about the likes of Mr and Mrs Lee Kuan Yew. How many husbands and wives do you witness nowadays where one spouse send the other better half off at their death bed? We read more about divorces, broken families, disputes over alimonies and custody of children, fighting over matrimonial homes and wealth, more often than we read about spouses living till the day that they part in death. Rest In Peace, Mrs Lee Kuan Yew.

Dear Editor,

I have not had the pleasure of knowing her personally, however, recently, after her passing, she appears to me to have been a person who loved her husband very dearly, a devoted mother and basically a decent human being.

Losing such a 'Soulmate" must be very difficult for our Minister Mentor Mr Lee Kuan Yew, however, I pray that God will bless him with the strength he would need to carry on and also knowing that all Singaporean share, in his grief and I hope that in some small measure, this will bring comfort to him and his family.

Mr Lee says his life would have been different had he not married Kwa Geok Choo. Indirectly Singapore may not be what it is today had it not been for Kwa Geok Choo.

Kwa Geok Choo was always seen with Mr Lee walking quietly with hiim. I somehow felt that she was Mr Lee's shadow. Always there, but never in the limelight and hardly saying a word. As Mr Lee has confessed that he is what he is today because of Kwa Geok Choo. We, Singaporeans are grateful to Mrs Lee for being his pillar of strength. We have to thank Mrs Lee for being instrumental in changing the history of Singapore. We can never repay her for what she has silently done for Singapore.

I was in primary school when the PAP came into power. Life was very difficult back then for the majority of people in Singapore. We faced gang fights, strikes and corruption everday, Singapore was in a sorry state. No one would have thought that Singapore would change from that deplorable little red dot to what it is today. .

Thank you Mrs Lee Kuan Yew . We will miss you. Rest in peace.

Mrs. Lee Kuan Yew, A Virtuous Wife. For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her, so he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life; She girds herself with strength, and she extends her hands to the poor and she reaches out her hands to the needy. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children rise up and call her blessed; and her husband also, and he praises her;

Many daughters have done well. But, you excell them all!!! ( Book of Proverbs, Chapter 31:10-29 )

She is the woman behind the man that all of us respected most, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. She will always be remembered as the humble and capable lady that has been a pillar to our MM. It is so great of her to be always beside her husband, performing her role as a wife, friend and confidant. Most of all, I do think that she has demonstrated that even such a capable lady like her, she has remains truly in her primarily roles and responsibilities as a wife and mother to her family. We will miss her dearly, and our hearts go to her family and loved ones.

Mrs Lee Kuan Yew is ONE fantastic, incredible, 'iron' woman, be it as a wife, mother, grandmother or mother to our nation, Singapore. Kudos to her for all her relentless support to Mr Lee Kuan Yew. We are indeed very proud of you!

I would definitely miss her company in Singapore . In general, we can say that she has been a pillar to mr Lee Kuan Yew's life. Truly, she is a hero and Inspiration to me. At least she has lived almost 100 years, its a big thing. I send my heartiest condolences to the Lee family.

I'd the pleasure of serving her and Mr Lee on a flight to Shanghai, back in the early 90's, she was very gracious and kind to a very nervous young lady, who felt a bit overwhelmed by the fact that she had to serve such illustrious people. She put me at ease, and for that I'll always remember her. Her kind and gentle way of speaking, with no airs whatsoever.

My condolelances to Mr Lee, at the loss of his soulmate, but he is truely fortunate to have found someone like her to be by his side all these.

May you rest in peace Mrs Lee Kwan Yew, you have fought the good fight.

I know nothing about Mrs Lee but I do know that Mr LKY loves her very much.

She must have many good natures in her to conquered a man who is seemed unconquerable & to bring up his children to become distinctive figures of the society .

Honestly, I will not miss Mrs Lee at all.

But I will always admire Mrs Lee as a extraordinary wife and mother that helped to shape the old & modern Singapore!

I would say that for an ordinary foreign worker like me, it has and will always be one of the greatest privilege in my whole life to be able to personally meet Mr. & Mrs. Lee Kuan Yew. That time I met the most respected couple who paid their respects to my employer's late father who happened to be a close friend to them and a high supreme court justice of Singapore. I was given the chance to serve Mrs. Lee Kuan Yew a glass of normal temperature drinking water as soon as she heads to her seat that very memorable night. No one knows how honored i felt to be able to come upclose to both of them, and even if it is a short encounter with them, the prestige and honour of meeting them, getting acknowledged with an honest smile for a small task , i will forever be grateful for unexpected opportunities like this..may the Lord keep you in His loving care,Madame Kwa Geok Choo...

my condolences to the family and loved ones..

I think it will be the strong pillar of support for both Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as well as their family.

She had been very instrumental in all the things that she had done for the Nation. She kept a low profile in whatever she does and I feel that she was very humble yet a great assistant to her husband, MM Lee.

She will definitely be greatly miss by everyone in Singapore, Singaporean.

From now on we won't need to hope and will not be seeing her by the side of MM Lee, simple yet regal standing tall not much shorter than him. Miss her crisp English, wish she has spoken more in public for us to remember, not our horrendous Singlish. Maybe she could have thought us! She did not go in vain, though. More than half a century with the man she loves and who loves her back the same. She married a great man, and left behind children who are also great people an elder son who is also PM, a daughter who is an A class neurosurgeon...Becos of her giving, and intertwined life with her husband, we are a respected nation by many outside. I would like to think we are also molded in that context, majority of us got it, that's why we are sad too. We all tear in the family watching tv hearing and seeing her life with MM Lee, so loving. We worry for him, losing his long time partner. As always, we comfort ourselves that MM Lee can overcome his sorrow. I read Prof Lee's column too and knows she is esp close to her mother. Take care too, Prof and all in the Lee family..

It is with her great support that Mr lee kuan yew can put all his effort to govern singapore to be what it is today as being one of the country with the highest GDP,world best airport, busiest seaport, best airline, judiciary, below 3% jobless, least corrupt country, etc. With so many positive , it is indeed so fortunate to be able to born in singapore.

I do not miss her but I admired her and looked up to her as an individual, as a wife and mother of the 2 men in her life that are very involved in the building of our nation. It was never easy for her, especially if she is the pillar of strength behind Mr Lee. During those times when we just gained independence, it was not easy. Her love for Mr Lee was selfless. Her faith in Mr Lee was beyond words. Only she knew. Only Mr Lee knew how much her had scarified and contributed.

She has been the pillar of strength for our MM Lee. She is a selfless and caring lady. Although she has not been the main stay in the political arena in this region, the invisible hand which she had played, has a indirect influence of what has made Singapore today. Together with her husband, their selfless devotion to our country cause, cannot be measured. Their sacrifice and dedication towards the cause of this nation is what Singaporeans, young and old - should be grateful and thankful for and their presence has made Singapore into a world class and well respected economy. We are very fortunate to have her in our midst.

I have shared the following message on my facebook:-

"A successful man is always supported by a woman of pristine quality. This quality could be found within our beloved Mdm Kwa Geok Choo.

With such a quintessential wife - a pillar of supportive strength : quiet yet stunningly, brilliant & firm to our MM Lee Kwan Yew....

To my surprise on 3rd Oct'10 I noticed that 30th Sept... 2010 was Mr & Mrs Lee's 63th Wedding Anniversary...

Two years ago, on 30/09/2008 (this is my birthday too) , I had sent a sms message to friends : " Today,30th Sept, is International Wife's day initial from Singapore. Show ur love one 2 rcd ur surprise! Pass down.", (Some of you should known it too....I still keep the message)

I would like to take the initiative to declare & dedicate 30th Sept to be the International Wife's day for our memory of Mdm Kwa and the role model for us to leran & grow.....

Mdm Kwa, rest in peace....... You shall be surely missed......

It is remarkable for a highly intellectual woman to take a backseat to support her husband in his career path. Undoubtedly, Minister Mentor, whom I also admire very much, was able to have peace of mind to rule our country and together with his well-chosen team build up the little red dot to what it is today - a much admired state where its people have a good life, secure and clean environment and ample opportunities for all who are willing to work hard and earn a decent living. So if we reflect on Mrs Lee Kuan Yew's contributions, it's immeasurable. I salute her life and will learn from her selfless contributions to our nation and social fabric of society. To you, MM, you must be most proud of your equal half. My condolences to PM Lee, MM and your families.

The everlasting love for each other. After I'm watching Ch8 the memories of Mrs Lee, I'm more touch about it. Remeber watching a TVB serial show before, said by the actor : Hope that I can live longer and healthier than you, but why so.. so that I have good health to look after you, so that you wouldnt be alone if I gone. These few sentences that been in my mind. If anyone see these, hope that too you can do it.

I admire her courage to stand by MM Lee during those turbulent early years of nation building. The young MM Lee could have chosen a more comfortable path of life, and Mrs Lee would have a much less stressful life thereafter. But of course they had not taken the easy way out. I missed her public speech. ( Don't know if she ever gave speech in public.) Any book written by her?

The only case i can remember about her, when she purchased a house and get discount and her case was mentioned in court where her husband MM Lee defended her.

I hope our existing PM will let the public know more about his wife and the media should do more coverage on her..else she too will be like her mother in law. Most Singaporean doesn't know about the life of Mrs MM Lee. May God Bless Her Soul and may She Rest In Peace.

Behind every man there is a woman. She is an intelligent lady who married an intelligent man. She was not that beautiful, but enough to be an adviser for a husband wh hold an important position.

My friend share an interesting view. My friend mentioned that MM Lee is an ambitious man who looks for an efficient and independent lady that could look after the dignity of her husband. Mrs MM Lee, does not compete with her husband, instead she work together with him.

Mrs Lee is truly exemplary. From what has been shared with and from the public, there is not a doubt she has influence over MM Lee above proof reading his works and speeches, or nurturing the kids to respectable beings as they are today. She must also have been directly responsible for our nation's success, providing that level of dutiful support, understanding and vision to compliment MM's and for bigger causes (who in his own right is a rare intellect and who of course has own mind and purpose). She deserves our/my every respect, and Singapore is deeply blessed to have both MM and Mdm Kwa.

GOD'S GREATEST GIFT OF A WOMAN TO SINGAPORE!

She is of course our dearest Mrs Lee Kuan Yew---so brilliant, yet so unassuming, sensible, warm, caring, prudent and thrifty (on herself, but not on others). No woman can excel over her as a brilliant scholar, devoted wife and mother rolled into one. She is just the perfect role model for all girls and women of what they could aspire to.

She is the ideal woman and devoted wife that King Soloman has extolled in Proverbs 31:10-31. It is hard to believe that such a woman King Solomon has potrayed really exists. Well, many are very glad that she does---in the person of Mdm Kwa Geok Choo! From her, Singaporeans will forever be indebted for her nurturing two of our great leaders---MM Lee and PM Lee Hsien Loong! Moreover, many in other countries, especially in China, are touched and very inspired by her too!

Dear MM Lee! please let our sweet condolences and inspiring remembrances of your dear wife give you strength to carry you over during this period of great bereavement. There will never be another woman like her again in Singapore!

So we have to thank God for giving us such inspiring people like your dear wife and you! And your dear son PM Lee and great daughter Prof Lee Wei Ling, etc, are continuing in the great works and great deeds both of you have done and have shown us how to do them!

Thank you so much, dear Mdm Kwa Geok Choo! I am so happy you have finally been called home for your well-earned rest to be in heaven with our dear Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

A very amazing lady whom I served as a patient about twice in my life. She was so absolutely precise for her medical appointment, and what appalled me was she stepped into the clinic sharply at her appt time, not a minute less or more..wow! She looked dignified in the most simplest of her clothes, no glamour yet outstanding, soft spoken and gentle, yet refined. She met me only once but when I wasn't around for her second visit but saw her on the third, she asked what had happened to me then. I was so touched that she actually remembered me serving and assisting her during visit. Never got to know her much but must say am very proud to have served such an amazing and astute person.God bless her and may she rest in peace. To her family, you'll not be alone in missing her.

I believe she has set a precedence for the Women in Singapore. She was the new-age Mother, Wife and Career woman, way back in 1950s when MM Lee was a young politician. I am sure, she has also helped to pave the way for the formulation of the Women's rights in Singapore too. Rest in Peace, this is a loss to our whole nation.

Eventhough I have seen her only through media, I came to know many good and lovely things about her life. She was a good example of a devoted WIFE, MOTHER, and GRANDMOTHER for today's young generation. I saw a special episode about her life yesterday night. It really touched my heart, how loving and adorable couple were they. She took each and every small things with much care, whether its Mr MM Lee's tailor made shirt, or a sweat in his forehead while giving an interview to the reporters. I would like me and my husband to have a loving life like them. May God help Mr Lee to uphold his will.

My impression is that all her children especially Dr Lee Wei Ling resembles the mummy very much.

It s a great loss to the nation and MM. She was a devoted wife, mother and grand mother. All this while the late Mrs Lee has been by the side of MM. It is really sadened to see MM will not be accompanied by his wife anymore to attend to any function. I am very sure he must have missed her a lot. The couple had shown us the meaning of true love and marriage life. I hope that god will give him strength to go through this difficult period. My condolence to the family of PM.

I will not miss her as she tried her best to stay behind the spotlight and support her family. I don't think it is her wish for people to miss her. She led a full life, provided great support to her family, was successful in her work and had a devoted husband.

I would say that she leave without any regret, maybe except that she went before her beloved husband. I am sure both of them wished that they will leave last so that the other won't have to suffer the lost.

Anyway, her life should be celebrated instead of mourned. She will be remembered, respected and will always be my role model.

The lady behind the scenes,

showed us what it means.

To have a wonderful,

and meaningful life,

behind the big wide screen.

The wife of our MM Lee,

The mother of our PM Lee.

She played a great role

for both of them

I'm sure everyone agrees.

One of the eight children,

of Mr & Mrs Kwa her parents.

She joined MGS,

topped a cambridge exam,

then went to raffles instituition.

For Queen's Scholarship.

she fought with her might,

against Mr Lee,

who caught her heart,

what a great piece of ART!

His equal he found,

as the Japanese crowned,

but their relationship,

grew even more.

then the Japanese drowned.

Both went to Cambridge,

the two got married.

No one knew,

yes no one at all,

Then home they were, Singapore.

Got into politics, MM Lee,

she built up Lee & Lee

sole breadwinner was she,

PM then was he.

And they both lived happily.

In 2003, on the way to london,

for a wonderful visit.

She suffered from,

a disastrous stroke.

But made a swift recovery.

Her son was made the PM,

her husband then the MM.

in 2008,

another stroke,

then she went under revamp

In 2010 she went to heaven,

our hearts broke into seven.

she played a great role,

behind the scenes,

and now we were heartbroken.

This lady is Mdm Kwa Geok Choo,

also known as Mrs Lee Kuan Yew.

She shed away

from high profiles,

but we all know her, oh yes we do.

Mrs Lee was a very private person so many Singaporeans hardly came into "contact" with her. Mrs. Lee has been known as the best supporter of MM Lee.

Without her, MM Lee would not be successful in his career

and life journey in Singapoe. MM Lee, you had made the right choice

for your woman in your life!!!

Mrs. Lee was known as our Mother of Singapore - We will truly missed

you, your smile, and your presence in Singapore.

She has left a great legacy behind for Singaporeans to follow:

1. Though she was intelligent, but she was humble and supportive

to her husband.

2. She has used her intelligence to bless the nation of Singapore.

3. She has been a great supporter to her husband MM Lee - What

a model for Singapore wives or ladies to learn.

4. She has lived a quality life until she departed from earth.

5. She is always our model and heroine of our lives.

A heartfelt condolences to MM Lee and his family during this time

of bereavement.

Even though I do not know her in person and based on what i have read so far, I do see her as a person belonging to an era that understands the needs of her husband.

For her, she not only understood her husband's needs, but made further sacrifices on her part to help make her husband succeed in his career. This is dedication. This is truly "through thick and thin". She should be a role model for Singaporean women.

But with all the talk and focus on male-female equality of modern era, it is increasing difficult now to expect a wife to make such sacrifices of her own accord.

For this, I sincerely respect her and can only say that her passing is truly a loss to LKY and her kids.

This humble and low profile woman had (behind the scene) helped build our nation to what it is today... Without her, I wonder what kind of 3rd world country we will all be living in now. I am really so proud of her, her unconditional contribution to her family and even to all of us - the Singaporeans, had greatly touched me. In the past, Mrs Lee has never came into my thoughts as she seldom make public appearance, but thinking back... if Mr Lee had not marry her (without her influence and selfless contribution), things could have been so different now. She is best remembered as the modest 'cheong sum' lady who has gracefully accompanied her husband publicly. She was never seen in designer's clothes or latest hairstyle or hoarding shoes. She may received her education overseas but she's very Chinese at heart. I've never met her personally but from LKY's and Dr Lee's sharing, Mrs LKY has done her best and fulfilled her duty as a wife and mother. She has set the example for many women that being a 'nu chiang ren' in the professional world she can also be the motherly at home. She has raised 3 wonderful children who has contributed much to our society. Her family has been proud of her and we too, as Singaporean woman, ought to be proud that she has left a legacy for us.

I didn't have the privilege of meeting the late Mrs Lee and my initial impressions of her were not warm as she seemed to have a very strict demeanour. However through the years, listening to stories of those who met her and from what was written of her, my respect of her grew. All i can say now is that Singapore has suffered an irreplaceable loss. The best thing we can do in her memory is to emulate her steadfast loyalty and strong sense of duty.

I was born in November 1965...the independence year of our Singapore. I use to remember the lady who was always in her cheon sum and neat hairstyle, staying close by our MM Lee whenever they were seen on TV locally or internationally. I will, certainly miss this fine figure of a woman forever, however so, this is my best memory of Mrs Lee. Farewell to the Mother of Singapore.

Though we have never met personally, she was always seen lovingly at MM Lee's side giving her support and care for the man she loved so faithfully and devotedly. This is the best memories of her as part of S'pore's development and growth from a nothing to something today. We will definitely missed her presence with our beloved MM Lee and for S'pore.

The world is short of 1 great and noble person – someone who kept so low profile yet admired and respected by many – honestly we do not see much of someone who possesses such character in our modern generation

Indeed very sad to see her depart although we have never met before except for her son PM Lee and grandson, but I have read many books and articles about her and her husband, MM Lee’s contributions to the making of the modern Singapore – our Singapore, we fondly call home…

May you rest in peace in wherever you are… we will fondly miss you and treasure the legacy you have left us, Singaporeans, with…

Dear Mrs Lee might not be a personal friend nor have I ever seen her in person, but recent reports and interviews about her departure saddens me. I really can feel her contributions to the nation and as a loving wife and mother.

Deepest condolences to her family and love ones.

She will be remembered as an intelligent, loving Mother of the nation.

May you rest in peace.

I still remember when i was in secondary school (already about 30 years ago) our teacher told us about Mrs Lee is a very clever and kindly woman. This few days when i read the newspaper i feel sadness." Miss U - Mother of Singapore ".

My best memory of Mrs Lee was showing her around the showroom in 1989 whilst she was looking for an Amana fridge to buy for her home. She was very cordial and pleasant and left a good impression on me as a elegant person but without air.

The virtuesl of a strong lady is not how loud, how much control, how much attention one could summon, demand or attract. For all I had read about Mrs. Lee over the past few days, her ways make me wish that more Singapore ladies are like her. Such moral goodness are seemingly lacking in many of our young ladies.

She will be remembered not only by Singaporean or me but also to a lot of state man/women and people that come in contact with her officially or socially as a compassionate, caring, good disposition but most of all very intelligent person who can speak to anyone about any subjects. That is why when she travelled with Senior Lee overseas she do us all very proud caused she project us as a very well balance both education wise and general knowledge wise. She got that warm smile

and the traditional Chong Sum which she carried it so well.

That’s what I’ll missed of her and that what I’ll carry with me in my heart. Do you know that she is very well respected and admired by others citizen – that’s what I gathered during my years of travelling.

Indeed Truly A Lady Of The Century who had lead an exemplary life. A Role Model as to how a wife, mother, grandmother and as a remarkable character should be. Many come and go but only few stand in history and she is one of them any women must strive to be like. A valuable person whom we have lost to TIME.

i didn't know much about her until recently when MM lee's interview about how he coped with her illness. it changed my views about her, as a woman, a mother and a wife.

she played a quiet but important role to shape singapore to where we are today. if not for her strokes, i am sure she would have contribute much more to our society, in terms of policies and guiding the younger generation. we have lost a great mother.

i sincerely hope that MM lee will remains strong in the days/wks/yrs to come, for he has so much more to contribute and teach the young ministers.

to MM and PM lee, the nation mourns with you and yet knows very well that Mdm Kwa has taught many great lessons in life.

Sadly, its weird that i don't really know about her beside the fact that she is the wife of MM Lee.

But upon knowing her death i felt a pitch in my heart. After reading all the past history about her then i realise that she has done so much for Singapore. Rest In Peace Mrs Lee.

Though I've not seen her in person, but I'll miss most seeing her, standing next to MM Lee, so quiet but yet so visible. I'll always remember the TV scene that showed her talking about MM Lee, during his younger days, with the both of them smiling so passionately at the end of her conversation.

Growing up in the sixties, I was, even as a young child. aware of the racial riots and the curfews imposed in the mid-sixties. I remember my family moving out of our Chinese-dominated neighbourhood to take up temporary residence at a family friend's home in Nassim Hill. A week later, we returned home and our Chinese neighbours came round and assured my late father that they would not harm us, their longtime neighbours. In fact, to avoid any strangers from walking in freely into our neighbourhood (two rows of eight houses), a pool of money was collected and metal gates were erected at the entrance to and exit of the area around these houses. We felt safe.

Soon, things changed for the better in Singapore, be they in housing, transportation and education. Before long, we moved into our then 3-bedroomed new HDB flat in Toa Payoh. My father got a taxi license and his friend help paid the downpayment for a brand new taxi. Our quality of life improved. Singapore became an industrious country. All these would not have been possible without our then Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew at the helms. Singapore was fortunate to have had him for its Prime Minister then and more fortunate now to have him as Minister Mentor to steer this country to greater heights. Having said that, it would not have been possible for Mr Lee to oversee the day-to-day runnings of Singapore smoothly without the ever-presence of his very strong, brilliant, understanding and supportive spouse in Mdm Kwa Geok Choo aka Mrs Lee Kuan Yew. She has left him, her family and us, Singaporeans. I will remember Mrs Lee as one very charming and graceful lady, clad elegantly in cheongsams who stood by her man through thick and thin. Rest in Peace, Dear Mother of Our Nation. You did Singapore and its people proud! God Bless..

I will remember Mdm Kwa for her nobleness. She could have carved a glorious career for herself since she was also a brilliant student. Yet, she chose to stand steadfast behind and support her husband, MM Lee who developed Singapore into a 1st world country today.

Words are not enough to express our gratitude towards her. She will be greatly missed!
2010-10-05 00:18:41 UTC
I had personally served MM Lee & his beloved wife, Mdm Kwa Geok Choo about 12 years ago. They were on board an SQ flight bound for Tokyo and I was a Leading Stewardess in charge of serving them in First Class. To me, they were really pleasant and kind grandparent figures, except they are really the heroes of modern Singapore. I remembered fondly that Mdm Kwa packed her own fruits of pomelo on board and even offered me to try as they were very sweet. She was caring and asked if we had had our meals. MM Lee was also very friendly and was always smiling. I was very, very honoured to have that opportunity to serve MM Lee and his lovely wife, even if it was for only 7 hours. Mdm Kwa Geok Choo was always joyful and she had an aura of kindness and grace about her.

I just want to say: Mdm Kwa Geok Choo has left an impeccable mark on modern Singapore. She has always been gracious, kind and supportive. She had indeed lived her life to the fullest and will always be an inspiration and joy to all.

To MM Lee: my sincerest condolences to you and your family. May God bless you and your family at this difficult time.

We will miss her unassuming love for all mankind, whether its for her husband, children, grandchildren, people she met, etc, We will miss her modesty and humanity. She is indeed a perfect woman of the century.

She worked, raised her children alongside MM Lee. Her tireless energry and conviction make her the perfect woman; a loving wife, a doting mother and a career woman all in one. Not only is she able to juggle 3 major responsibilities but, she could do all so brilliantly!

Maybe as a Singaporean, I would miss a "good lawyer" by the side for MM Lee - have heard that she accompany him everywhere or trips that he made politically abroad for Singapore. As she sat by his side, details of discussion is being "recorded by this good lawyer" to bring back what "deals stored for Singapore" be brought forth to life.

All foremost is she "standby" MM Lee during his political years and thus enable him to manage Singapore to today stage with the cabinet members.

All the best and good faith of life.

Without her, Singapore might not be as good as what we see/live today. I admit some credits go to her. Feel a bit sad but this is life. So what Singapore will turn out to be in future will depend on who and how the leader and his group manage it and of course with good, understanding wise support from their family as well to give Singapore a strong secure and homely place to stay.

Its not something you read daily about a high profile couple married for this long! No doubts she stood by her husband, supporting him thru thick and thin, when he built an island into an economic empire! She kept her house in order and the husband the country - each other complimenting throughout their lives!

No matter how 'hard' a man becomes thru his difficult life, it is always painful to loose someone whom you shared your very personal life! Time and god can only heal this pain but no matter how much it heals, it bound to leave scars behind to remember forever!

A Supportive wife, contented mother and cheerful grandmother will rest in peace!

To a young Singaporean, I have only seen MM Lee as an image of a cold stern grandfather, a distant figure of another generation that ours respect and still fear. Yet, with the death of Mrs Lee, I had the chance to catch a glimpse of their journey as wife and husband, and it occurred to me that this old man, so wise and cold and sharp, was once a young lad and is still a man whose heart softens at the sight of his lover.

Mrs Lee embodied the virtues of a traditional Chinese woman & the wisdom of western modern feminist. A humble lady who stood quietly support her family and put others ahead of her self-interest. A model of Singaporean ladies, the mother of the nation. If Spore women could possess such qualities as the late Mrs Lee, then the peaking divorce rate will be cooled and Spore men need not outsource ideal partners from overseas.

She has not only achieved high recognition in her academic studies and in her career as a lawyer, she has also been the pillar of strength for her husband and brought up 3 very successful children. Madam Kwa is the MOST BEAUTIFUL asian woman of our time. She truly earns my respect, for being such a gentle wife, a caring mother, a stern leader, virtuous lady, in whatever role that she plays, she plays it well & wisely. Will miss her pretty cheong sam too, modest yet elegant :-)

I don't miss her, because I do not know her personally and so do not have much memories about her other than that she accompanied her husband most of the time on local events and overseas trips. But reading about her life in the newspapers lately after her death tells me she had been a good mother and supportive spouse.

She is like a good mother of Singapore. She did not want publicity but always cared for her husband. This is all i can say now because i am heartbroken and i am crying inside even though i'm 14 and no one in my class knows about her until yesterday... its its just sad to say anything... Bye mother of singapore... We'll try to be strong

She's intelligent n witty, yet forbearing with all those unfair criticisms about her and her family.

A woman of high caliibre, yet delights in her maternal role as a supportive wife, caring mother n loving grandmother. It is comforting to know that she passed away with her daughter by her side, instead of quietly alone.

Hi,

I am 50 years old, and she was older than my mom, and whether she directly or indirectly touched me - one thing is certain - in this world of hostilities in many forms, sizes and shapes SHE IS AN ANGEL to all me and my fellow Singaporeans...SHE WILL FOREVER LIVE IN HEAVEN! GOD TAKE GOOD CARE OF HER AND BLESS HER ALWAYS!!

As a singaporean youth, I would say very little. For the duration of my life, she has had pretty much zero direct presence in my life and especially this few years when she lapsed into her coma. So, to sum it up, the best answer to say is: absolutely nothing.

I pray for strength for the Lee family.
