Question:
Why do intelligent questions get such few responses on this forum?

Silly questions can get hundreds of responses - like asking what color your candidate wears most frequently.

But an intelligent question about the status of our nation and how to resolve today's very complicated issues and struggles receive little to no response.

Is earning points really that important over giving intelligent answers?

This really is true, but, like the national dialogue itself, most people are not well versed enough to be a true "wonk".

My opinion on that is we all pretty much have chosen our candidate and aren't going to be swayed by anything except some huge bombshell by one of the candidates. With that in mind I seldom do the research and write an answer that would perhaps help the Asker make up their mind. Most Askers aren't looking for information in Politics, they are making a statement with their question and looking for support. Usually a sentence or two is enough to signal support (or disagreement).

EDIT: btw the mortgage/illegal alien question is a good one. I not only don't know the answer, I don't think I can find it and so I didn't answer it.

Most people can't really answer that question intelligently because I don't believe its possible to really determine how many illegals are even in this country since they are undocumented. Its my understanding that some have gone back to Mexico or where ever they came from for lack of work here. Even the statistics provided by the government vary by as much as 8 million in determining the number illegals.

there are too many stupid questions, and also many obscene ones in some sections. I only answer intelligent or thought provoking questions in any section. although not a top contributor, i too, for a while kept away. It is too boring to see silly, explicit or stupid questions. The y/a should be of genuine sharing and helpful nature to all.

People don't want to actually think, they want to rant a partisan response. Usually because they are too young to vote or get educated on the actuall truth of the matter. I doubt that it's about points, because many get suspended for their attacks and rants, and just start a new account to continue the same.

Thought provoking questions are indeed rare, and I love to answer them.

I think that's an indicator of the sort of people who participate in this forum, if you know what I mean!
