Do you agree that we need to rethink the way we are doing things internationally?

It's about capability. What is being waged here is economic in nature. We are 9 trillion dollars in debt and already over extended in two wars... It gets down to we are not the powerhouse we think we are cause we are strapped financially. The funny thing about this situation is that we carry the burden yet multi lateral corporations world wide get contracts to rebuild. This is why business needs to carry more of the tax load as well as the top one percent. This is why we need to rethink the way we project ourselves... This is my solution. Withdraw from Iraq and move to consolidate and eliminate the Talibans presence in Afganistan. Once we are out of Iraq, Al queda will move to Afganistan. We narrow the front to an area that doesn't have such a economic impact on world oil prices which will help us to recover. Secondly, and this has been discussed for some time. If we are to fight these actions in the future, it needs to be a concise quick response. In other words we narrow our objectives to go in take out the problem and leave. Lesson the financial impact and don't create such an economic drain on our economy. In other words we should have left as soon as we got Saddam. That was our objective and we got him. The world will look at us then as a destroyer of evil and freedom instead of an occupier. Even with this philosophy, we need to draw in the EU to do some of this work and quite trying to be the worlds policeman. Share the load share the economic impact.

Yes..

Ive gone round and round with this and have arrived at the decision that we need a strong CIA.... Capable of the executing the dirty work but geared toward Intelligence gathering....

Its sad.. But American interests abroad will not be protected by words and treaties alone with the rise and acceptance of global terrorism.

Ill probably get many thumbs down for this.. but its far less costly than all out invasion and regime change.

Certainly, economics has a lot to do with what we do around the world.

Take energy: We are giving $700 BILLION a year to countries that hate us. If just a fraction of this were used to expand the corn crop, allow the oil companies to invest in new drilling and exploration, we'd have it made.

If we were to control our own borders, like every other country on Earth, we'd halve the unemployment rate in a year by giving valuable jobs to Americans that need them, not foreign imported wage-slaves.

If we stopped worryiong about how other countries see us, and make the foreigners keenly aware that THEY need worry about pleasing the USA, things would go mush better for the USA! All the dictators on Earth beware, America is now a force for good, and freedom, and democracy, and prosperity through Capitalism!

Sometimes you can patch an old tire and it will work for awhile, but what we really need is a brand new tire. We need to withdraw from the middle east entirely and let nature take its course. We need move as rapidly as possible to high mileage transportation. To do this the federal government MUST mandate the manufacture and importation of ONLY high mileage vehiciles. Sound 'Stalinist', I know, but this is 'war' and it's a war we need to win. In the meanwhile we may need to go to fuel rationing....whoa!!! More 'Stalinism'. But as you may remember we did that very thing in WW2, plus we went from almost zero production to turning out exactly what was needed within 90 days and we won the war. Further, we need to build a high speed rail system..a real fuel saver over the flying cattle cars offered by the failing airline industry. More 'Stalinism'? Probably, but let's be adults and get the job done. Moving forward to as much solar and wind power as it takes to keep the light on has to happen and soon. Solar and wind are practically 'no-tech' solutions to stationary energy need as opposed to the nuclear 'solution'. Trying to breath life into the rotting corpse of the Oil Mafia is just going to put us further behind the wave. MoveOn.com. bro.....that's the ticket!

America's presence in the Middle-East and Eastern Europe is much more important than you think. I agree with your statement that the US is better off withdrawing from Iraq, but it's foolish to assume that the Al Queda presence will follow, they will see it as a victory. I agree with you on the rebuilding part, restrict it to US and to a lesser extent British corporations.

And don't put any faith in support from the EU, they are too bent on destroying the American economic monopoly to give a damn about helping.

Yes. What we do now is to line the pockets of defense companies.

"Once we are out of Iraq, Al queda will move to Afganistan."

They are way ahead of you. They live in the tribal regions of Pakistan. The idea that our presence in Iraq somehow draws Al Qaeda their like a moth to a flame is delusional. Al Qaeda is not a constant pool of people. People who hate America become partial to their cause. We gave plenty of people in Iraq a reason to hate America, now some of them are partial to Al-Qaeda. That's why Al Qaeda is in Iraq.

Yes, we need to follow our Constitution. We are engaged in undeclared wars around the globe, our politicians have made us the most hated nation on Earth, our economy is crumbling. We are paying outrageous prices for energy.

All of these things can be traced to the fact that we have allowed our politicians to ignore the Constitution, and serve special interests.

You are very naieve. There is a lot of oil in Iraq and Iraq is in the middle of the middle east where there is even more oil and gas.

This has nothing to do with Saddam.

tl;dr sorry.

To answer your question though, yes we are in a new century and we are still working with the politics of the old century. Everything needs to be turned on it's head. A new and better way needs to be found. The world is a very different place now, and our politics all over the world should reflect that.
