Question:
Why is Obama so occupied with his own reputation that he ignores the sad loss of life on the BP Oil spill rig?

The families of the oil rig workers who were lost in the explosion have barely been mentioned in the aftermath of the tragedy. Obama could have least acknowledged the fact that respect for the families left behind was more than necessary. The American Government was bound to be aware that deep drilling was an extremely risky operation when it licensed BP to operate there. Obama therefore should be prepared to shoulder a large part of the blame. Instead of buzzing around america in that huge, gas-guzzling airplane dishing out sarcastic comments, he should at least make contact with the families of the dead oil workers to offer the same benefits and respect shown to Fisherman and coastal dwellers in the states.IT IS A DISGRACE THAT THOSE WHO PERISHED ARE BEING FORGOTTEN AT THIS SAD TIME FOR THEIR FAMILIES!. The oil will eventually clear up. The families of the departed will suffer for a long long time to come. I used to admire Obama but now I have lost all respect. ( disappointed UK citizen)

yeah to bad hes doing nothing to show respect to the families. I guess bringing them to the White House is disrespectful to you? This story is in most Newspapers and on TV here.................. President Barack Obama has extended invitations to the White House to the families of the 11 workers who died in the Deepwater Horizon explosion that caused the Gulf oil spill.

"The president sent a letter to each of the families extending the invitation and sharing his heartfelt sympathy on their tragic loss," a White House official said............ Looks to me he is not forgetting them, how about you?

The meeting between the president and the victims' families will occur Thursday.

Just like Bush was Katrina; Obama is the oil spill. There has been zero clean up effort

and on top of that like you said zero mention of the workers who died. You know who's responsible? BP, their subsidiaries and our own gov't for not using enough oversight to see this coming and allowing bureacracies to form that allow things like this to go unnoticed, EVERYONE is on the chopping block, which is why all the hullabaloo about whose to blame, because EVERYONE is to blame for this. The sad part is it is decimating the coast, killing off animals, and the unseen damage to plankton life and basis for all sea life is being eroded away, yea it might not have "visibly" killed as many as Valdez but it is destroying the entire habitat for years to come. All Obama can do is shake hands and read from his teleprompter, it is shameful, this is 100 times worse than Katrina and all he can do is talk talk talk. Love him or hate him, he might've spoken crap sometimes, but you gotta give it to Bush, when he said he was going to do something he did something. Not everyone agreed but he DID it, what has Obama done in regards to this crisis? Anyone see any government money flying out to protect the environment damaged from this? I haven't heard crap from PETA about protecting all these animals. It's a sham, my friend, an outright shameful excuse for a president to allow this to happen and not do a single thing about. I personally can't understand how anyone could support Obama after all he's done to our financial system, when he was elected for 3 straight months the markets dropped. 3 months straight, 2 months before he was elected the markets were showing signs of improvement, then the healthcare reform duplicity, now the financial, it's all a sham. If there is one thing people should remember is this.

All politicians, left right center whatever, they ALL lie, they will say and do ANYTHING to get the votes to get elected and then will leave you all out to dry once they are in office and proceed to enact their own agenda which has NOTHING to do with helping the american people, and anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.....

Isn't it sad that so many people are ignoring the culpability of BP, Halliburton and Transocean - which is extremely huge - and instead are focusing on the President of the United States to find blame and fault?

For those who don't like President Obama anyway, it doesn't really matter what he does or does not do, they'll find a way to criticize him. The sad thing is that they can't see how ridiculous they look!

How about this: If BP hadn't been so reckless in so many ways, perhaps those 11 would still be alive! As a UK citizen, you should be very ashamed such a horrible company bears the name of your country.

That's rich coming from a country where a Duchess can sell business introductions to her ex-husband Prince Andrew for 1/2 a million pounds and where you have a sour faced old queen who loves her corgis more than she loves her subjects ... AND ... it was BRITISH Petrolium that was responsible ... I didn't hear old Queen Sour Puss offer any condolences or a few crown jewels in compensation for these families!
