Question regarding the 2018 midterms...?

Historically, midterms go against the president's party.

Dems only need 24 seats to win back the house which is very do-able considering previous midterms had 50 or 60 seats change parties.

But regarding the Senate.....
It's a tough map for the Dems.
The Dems are defending like 23 seats while the Repubs are defending like 8 seats.

but if you are just basing it off that......

that would mean:
the Dems gain seats in the House,
and lose seats in the Senate?

Very unusual by historical standards.

Has that ever happened before?
a party wins seats in one house by loses seats in the other during the same year?

Can you cite one time where that's ever happened?

you are too optimistic about the House. the GOP has those seats because of Gerrymandered districts. it is hard to beat the Gerrymander game.

It happened in 1996. Republicans lost 3 House seats but gained 2 Senate spots.

Not that I recall.

Unlikely due to gerrymandering done after the 2010 census

Democrats nationally got more votes in 2012 yet Republicans ended up with their House majority.

"During the last election, Democrats won over a million votes more than Republicans," Rep. Lloyd Doggett said in a Nov. 4, 2013, talk at the University of Texas at San Antonio. "But because of the way" House "districts are designed, the Republicans got 33 more members of the House of Representatives than the Democrats did."

Republican domination of redistricting in statehouses effectively helped the GOP maintain its House majority.

but that could change SCOTUS took the grrrymandering case

Depending on the ruling it may or may not effect 2018.

Cons lost a deep red seat to a Democrat in Alabama. Get used to the words "Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi."
