A newspaper in New York has received a wave of criticism from its readers after publishing the names and addresses of all of the individuals with handgun or pistol permits in its coverage area.
Hundreds of residents in New York's Westchester and Rockland counties were surprised to find their names and addresses listed on a map posted by The Journal News on Sunday. Users can click any dot on the map to see which of their neighbors has a permit for a gun.

Might be a wake up call for all you registered gun owners out there. They know who you are and where to come when they get ready to take away your guns!



The thing is is that it was already public, so people should thank them for making more people aware at how easy it is going to be to go down the list and pick up their guns.



I don't know about the east US but in the west it will have to be a list like the one they compile from public opinion and internet activity that the gun collectors will have to use. Most of the gun owners that I know don't advertise their guns nor are they registered anywhere.



I live in Mexico and here I have no guns. Only the criminals and government have guns here. If you are in your home and a criminal wants to come in with a gun and take your belongings he doesn't have to worry about you shooting him. Really lots of peaceful people here have guns, but they don't have them legally, so they are criminals too. And they are few compared to the people that don't have guns.



The murder rate in Mexico was higher than that of the USA because of the so called "drug wars". But the use of a gun to murder was something like double in the USA. Think about that, Without legal guns the people were just murdered with something else. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE...



So why did the news story post all those names? I guess it was to show the criminals which houses were easier targets, the other houses.
