What do you think about Dick Cheney's view on gay marriage?

He was just speaking at National Press Club where he gave support for gay marriage as long as it is approved by the states. Cheney stated, "freedom is freedom for everybody." That's a more progressive view than the one Obama holds.
Please don't assume that yo know my political affiliations. You do not. I'm just asking a question.

This is actually pretty typical. Many people are solidly against gay marriage by principle, because they view gay people as an unknown, hostile lot. Then they meet someone who is gay, realize that gay people are perfectly normal, and their whole view changes.

Cheney's view is that it is a state issue, not a federal issue. I agree with Cheney.
Every state has freedom to vote down homo marriage, and most of them have already banned it.

I found it surprising given that he is a conservative Republican, but understand it given the fact that his own daughter is a lesbian.

If his daughter liked minors, he would say that is good too. If she were a bank robber he would say "Spread the wealth." No principles.
