...wrong searching for specifically political words in names of groups applying for tax exempt status?
Since groups with right wing conservative names were likely to be political?
Especially since they were examining liberal groups at the same time?

The tax code does not allow political activity for social welfare organizations.

However, treasury regulations do all social welfare organization to engage in political activity as long is it is not their primary activity.

The larger question why is the government making in difficult for anybody, liberal or conservative to engage in political activity.

The government should be encouraging speech. Giving everyone a say adds to legitimacy of decisions. The tax code should be changed to allow tax exempt status for all political organizations. This would put an end to all the nonsense and mess.

despite the errors in your story and beliefs, what the IRS did, as documented multiple times, was to

1. delay right wing groups far more frequently and much longer than left wing groups -- thus showing political favoritism

2. demand huge detail concerning donors, etc. from right wing groups what was not demanded of left wing groups -- again, displaying political favoritism

3. illegally giving some of that detail to outside pressure groups -- which used it to organize demonstrations against the donors to the right wing groups. Not only is this last illegal on its face, but it raises the spectre of "Big Brother" -- anyone who doesn't do as the government wishes will be harassed by

the allies of that government. That's about three steps from an outright tyranny.

Tax exempt status for notable Democrat groups sailed right through, including one for obama's uncle, where tax exempt status was illegally granted retroactively.

The IRS did nothing wrong, but were just another victim of the spaghetti shotgun technique being used by the right wing..you know..in their desperation for a scandal, throw a ton of spaghetti at the wall and hope something sticks.

Wrong. The Democrat and Republican parties are examples of political groups that are tax exempt. They are known as 501(c)(4)s and 501(c)(6)s. Wow, a liberal was wrong. Surprise Surprise.
